I Need Yellowjackets Season 3 to Answer One Major Question

As a devoted fan of Yellowjackets who has been following this gripping series since its very beginning, I can’t help but feel both the anticipation and the nostalgia that the approaching Season 3 brings. The mystery surrounding the Pit Girl has been a lingering enigma for far too long, and it feels like an unopened box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day – delicious yet frustratingly sealed.

The theory that Mari, our enigmatic and complex character, is the Pit Girl, has always resonated with me. Her striking resemblance to the faceless girl in the pit, coupled with Misty’s peculiar reaction to consuming her flesh, seems too compelling to ignore. If this turns out to be true, it would not only provide a satisfying resolution but also add another layer of complexity to their already intricate relationship.

However, I must admit that I’ve developed a certain affection for the Pit Girl over these past seasons, much like a lost puppy one finds on the street and can’t help but imagine its life story. So, if it turns out Mari isn’t the Pit Girl, I might just have to reconsider my dog-adoption policy. But hey, who knows? Maybe the writers will throw us a curveball and reveal that the Pit Girl was actually a shapeshifter all along! Now, wouldn’t that be a twist?

As the third season of “Yellowjackets” approaches, one of its longest-standing enigmas is about to be unraveled. The initial scene of the series drops viewers into a wintry forest, where an anonymous girl, barefoot in the cold, is being chased. Other unknown figures are heard cawing and making terrifying noises to drive the fleeing person ahead, until she suddenly falls into a pit. As her pursuers draw nearer, we observe that the girl has been impaled by branches standing upright like spears in the ground. This sets the stage for the enigma surrounding the Pit Girl’s identity, whose distinguishing features at this point are merely her physical attributes and the necklace she wore before her demise.

The third season of “Yellowjackets” will debut on Valentine’s Day 2025, offering an exciting twist to the traditional celebration. Since its second season was released in March 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for over two years to catch up with the latest episodes from Showtime’s hit horror dramedy. The wait has been particularly agonizing given the numerous unresolved mysteries that the show presents. For instance, we’re still trying to decipher the secrets of the enigmatic wilderness where the group is trapped, and the identity of the Man with No Eyes continues to puzzle us. However, the greatest mystery of all remains the identity of the Pit Girl from “Yellowjackets”, a riddle that I hope the writers will unravel in Season 3.

Who Is the Pit Girl in Yellowjackets?

Initially, I was somewhat taken aback when the second season didn’t disclose the identity of the Pit Girl. Yet, another part of me appreciated the opportunity to work alongside fellow fans in solving the puzzle by elimination as the narrative unfolded. The excitement that comes with mystery series like Yellowjackets lies in discussing and speculating theories with others rather than having everything laid out over time. However, there should be a balance, and while I’ve enjoyed theorizing about the Pit Girl and potential future victims, I believe we’re all eager to learn the truth behind the dead girl’s story.

For quite some time, I’ve been advocating a theory that has garnered significant attention among fans of Yellowjackets, particularly on its Reddit community: the side character, Mari (Alexa Barajas), might be the girl found in the pit. This hypothesis is strongly supported by two main pieces of evidence. Firstly, Mari bears a striking resemblance to the deceased girl, both in terms of her long, dark hair and overall appearance. Secondly, Misty seems unusually happy after consuming the Pit Girl’s flesh, which could indicate either enjoyment of human flesh or satisfaction over the girl’s demise due to their complicated past.

In Season 2, Mari consistently treats Misty harshly, often mocking her. This behavior is further justified by her suspicion towards Misty following Crystal’s death. If it turns out that the Pit Girl is indeed Mari, Misty’s reaction would fit perfectly with her character and provide a logical explanation for her unusual response.

As the symbolic aspect of “Yellowjackets” unfolded, we eventually discovered that the necklace the Pit Girl wore once belonged to Jackie and then Shauna. However, this necklace now carries a more ominous significance – whoever draws the Queen of Hearts from a deck of cards is destined to wear it, signifying a potential sacrifice. Initially, the necklace was a subtle way to keep viewers speculating, but it eventually became a chilling hint of cannibalism. Despite its initial purpose, the necklace didn’t aid in identifying the Pit Girl, but rather served as an intriguing symbolic device in the storyline.

To date, it’s been established that Shauna, Lottie, Van, Misty, Taissa, and Travis managed to survive their time in the wilderness. Regrettably, both Natalie and Travis passed away as adults following the initial two seasons, while Jackie, Laura, Crystal, and Javi all perished in the woods without escaping. The fates of certain characters remain uncertain, including Coach Ben (who may have doomed himself after attempting to kill other survivors with arson during Season 2’s finale) and Mari. As an adult, we haven’t seen Mari yet, leaving her as a possible candidate for the Pit Girl role. We’ll just have to be patient until the upcoming season to discover more about what happened, and I personally can hardly wait!

You can stream the initial two seasons of “Yellowjackets” on Paramount+, which also includes content from Showtime. The third season is set to debut on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, 2025.
