Marvel Reveals Surprising First-Look at Blade (But It’s Not What You Think)

As a long-time fan of Marvel Comics and the MCU, I can confidently say that the upcoming animated series “Marvel Zombies” has me absolutely thrilled! The latest episode of “What If…?” has given us a tantalizing glimpse into this unique universe, and the prospect of seeing Blade as Moon Knight is nothing short of mind-blowing.

As someone who grew up watching Wesley Snipes kick vampire butt in the original Blade trilogy and more recently binge-watched the brilliant Moon Knight series on Disney+, I can’t wait to see how these two iconic characters will be merged in this new animated adventure. The fact that we know for sure we’ll get to witness this mashup is just icing on the cake!

What makes it even more intriguing is the question of how they’ll mesh their backstories, strengths, and weaknesses. Will Khonshu have chosen Blade because he’s not just a dying human but a vampire hybrid? I’m eagerly anticipating the explanations for these unique twists when Marvel Zombies premieres in October of 2025.

In the meantime, I’ll be re-watching both series on repeat and sharing my excitement with fellow fans online—I might even start a Moon Knight/Blade fan club! And let’s not forget to laugh at the absurdity of it all: Who would have thought that a human-vampire hybrid would become the left fist of Khonshu? Only in the Marvel Universe, my friends!

In a technical sense, Blade first appeared in the MCU on Sunday, but just for a brief glimpse in an alternate reality. The Disney+ show “What If…?” concluded over the weekend with a sequence featuring new and soon-to-be-seen characters – among them, Blade portrayed as Moon Knight. This character is set to appear in the upcoming animated series “Marvel Zombies.

Over the past three years, “What If…?” has delighted fans with numerous intriguing variations of Marvel characters, and even though the series concluded on Sunday, it hinted at countless other possibilities yet to be explored. One such possibility was a brief sneak peek of Blade, the vampire hunter, transforming into Moon Knight’s left fist, a design that wasn’t casually tossed aside. This transformation was strikingly similar to a design shown in October when Marvel Studios previewed its upcoming streaming series. A scene from “Marvel Zombies” even depicted Blade as Moon Knight, slicing through the undead in a white cape.

Among the multiple characters featured in the final montage, it’s clear that Blade portraying Moon Knight is the only one we can confidently expect to appear in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Additionally, three characters from the Apple Vision Pro VR story “What If…? An Immersive Story” were also present: a young Hela with Mjolnir, The Infinity Witch, and Nova Centurion Carol Danvers. However, it’s worth noting that Marvel might abandon or include any of these ideas in future productions as they wish – this is the essence of the “What If…?” series.

As a diehard Marvel fan, I’m super excited about diving into “Marvel Zombies” – a gripping spinoff from the intriguing “What If…?” series! This miniserodrama takes us back to a familiar Season 1 setting. Now, unlike some of my favorite shows, this one is planned as a limited run, so we shouldn’t anticipate multiple seasons.

“Marvel Zombies” draws inspiration from the Marvel Comics series that debuted in 2005. Interestingly, we haven’t crossed paths with the intriguing Blade-Moon Knight mash-up yet, and as of now, the talented voice actor behind this role remains a secret!

As an avid Marvel enthusiast, I can’t help but recognize Moon Knight and Blade – two extraordinary characters that have left their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Moon Knight is none other than Marc Spector, a mercenary grappling with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), who draws his strength from an ancient Egyptian god to fight for justice. In the year 2022, he made his live-action debut in a captivating miniseries, with Oscar Isaac stepping into the role.

On the other hand, Blade is a familiar face, a half-human, half-vampire warrior who dedicates himself to eradicating vampires and safeguarding humanity. Wesley Snipes portrayed him in an impressive trilogy of films from 1998 to 2004 that were nothing short of successful. However, up until now, Blade has yet to make an appearance within the MCU.

It’s hard to predict how the Marvel Zombies series will blend the histories, abilities, and vulnerabilities of these two characters, Marc Spector (Moon Knight) and Blade (vampire hybrid). With Khonshu selecting Marc because he was near death, while Blade is already partially undead, fans are eager to learn more about this upcoming character. They’re hoping for a thorough explanation when Marvel Zombies premieres in October 2025 on Disney+. In the meantime, check out What If…? which is currently streaming on Disney+.
