As a seasoned researcher and long-time tester of various software, I find Microsoft’s invitation to join the Edge iOS Beta program particularly intriguing. Having had my fair share of beta testing experiences, I can attest that being part of such programs provides a unique opportunity to shape the future of technology.
The fact that Edge for iOS is now incorporating AI elements, such as Copilot, makes it even more compelling. As someone who has witnessed the evolution of technology, I find it fascinating how artificial intelligence is becoming an integral part of our daily lives, and Edge’s transformation into an AI browser seems like a natural progression.
Given that Edge on iOS holds a virtually nonexistent market share, it would be a fresh challenge to help this browser gain traction among the iPhone users. I’m looking forward to providing feedback and contributing to its development. Plus, with my extensive device collection, I can ensure that Edge receives thorough testing across various iOS devices.
To those who are interested in joining me on this adventure, remember: “The best way to predict your future is to create it.” – Abraham Lincoln. So, let’s help shape the future of Microsoft Edge on iOS!
Lastly, I can’t resist a good pun. Here goes: “I guess it’s time for me to edge-vocate for Edge on my iPhone!
As an analyst, I’m sharing that I’ve noticed Microsoft is encouraging more individuals to experiment with its Edge browser on iOS devices. They’ve extended an invitation via Reddit, asking users to enroll in Apple’s TestFlight Beta program. By becoming a beta tester, you’ll gain early access to upcoming features and have the opportunity to influence the evolution of Edge by offering valuable feedback.
A member from the Edge Mobile team is excitedly extending an invitation for you to be part of our current Edge iOS Beta testing phase, which can be found on Apple’s TestFlight platform. 🚀
We’re eagerly seeking out enthusiastic users who can assist us in defining the future direction of Edge on iOS. Your input plays a vital role in improving new features and crafting an exceptional user experience.
Our team is accustomed to participating in beta tests and joining the Insider community at Windows Central. We regularly run multiple devices on different versions of app betas, even alphas. In comparison, it’s typically harder to become a beta tester for iOS apps. TestFlight, for instance, can only accommodate up to 10,000 external testers in a single beta program. While that may sound like a substantial number, popular applications often reach their testing capacity swiftly.
Microsoft Edge on iOS
In November 2018, Microsoft launched its Edge browser for iOS devices. This was unexpected, given the rarity of Microsoft browsers on iPhones back then. Despite being around for more than five years and receiving multiple updates since, Edge holds a negligible share in the browser market. It’s so small that it doesn’t appear on Statcounter’s report about mobile market shares, with Firefox holding the least significant share at 0.5%. Therefore, it’s likely that Edge’s share is less than Firefox’s.
Technically, Edge mobile got a new name on iOS and Android to start 2024. Microsoft added “AI Browser” to the name of Edge on both the App Store and Play Store listings for the browser. Edge mobile now includes Copilot, the addition of which was a step toward making Edge an AI browser. Of course, any browser can use Copilot, but the tool is integrated with Edge mobile. Edge supports features like summarizing articles with Copilot.
As a researcher delving into the Edge browser, I’ve discovered it boasts familiar features reminiscent of its desktop counterpart, such as the Reading View and the ability to listen to webpages via a natural voice. Moreover, the convenience of file exchange spans across all versions of Edge, thanks to the Drop feature.
Although Edge has a relatively low market presence among mobile users, it boasts impressive reviews. With a 4.7 out of 5 rating in the App Store based on more than 286,000 evaluations, it’s highly regarded. If you’re already an Edge user across different devices, I suggest giving its mobile version a spin. Microsoft has skillfully designed Edge Mobile to mimic your browsing experience on a smaller screen, making it feel like an extension of your regular usage.
To participate in the beta testing of Edge for iOS, click on the Apple TestFlight link sent by Microsoft and then simply follow the instructions given on the page. Please note that you can only install TestFlight if you’re using an iPhone, iPad, or a Mac device.
