The anime adaptation of “Sakamoto Days” is nearing its release, yet some fans have expressed disappointment with the opening theme song by Vaundy, who has previously worked on songs for “Spy x Family” and “Chainsaw Man”, among others. While the song RUN SAKAMOTO RUN is being well-received, it’s the visuals that are causing a stir among fans. Given TMS Entertainment’s track record of successful works like “Dr. Stone” and the reboot of “Fruits Basket”, it’s unexpected to see such widespread dissatisfaction so soon after the opening theme was unveiled.
The anime has been officially planned for two seasons before its premiere, with the second season slated for release in July 2025. The story revolves around Taro Sakamoto, a renowned assassin who once held the title of greatest hitman ever. Five years ago, he married and left his criminal life behind. Now, living a tranquil life with his wife and daughter, trouble unexpectedly arises at their doorstep, endangering not only him but also his family. With the aid of new companions, Taro now confronts his past demons and takes whatever actions necessary to safeguard those close to him.
Sakamoto Days‘ Fans Complain About the Visuals in the Opening Theme
On January 4th, 2025, the opening theme was unveiled and circulated across multiple social media platforms. Unfortunately, the response hasn’t been as positive as expected. As @mangaxrepublic puts it, “I’m sorry, but this just doesn’t meet the mark. The proportions are strange, and the characters don’t seem to move or look like real people. The composition is questionable too – why are the characters tiny yet the lines so thick? It appears no thought was given to the design of this opening theme. They aimed for average, but they missed the mark.
As a passionate fan, I find it incredibly frustrating to witness numerous mid-series receiving outstanding adaptations, while shows like One-Punch Man Season 3 and Sakamoto Days are left wanting with subpar production.
@Anime_Kingu” comments that it’s not particularly bad, but it seems rather common or standard. He expresses a wish for a more distinctive style and creativity in the visuals of the first opening.
Despite some critics voicing their concerns about the opening sequence, numerous supporters are commending the studio and appreciating the minimalistic visual aesthetics. @nwnyeii_ expresses disappointment over fan reactions but believes that the animation may not be top-tier, yet maintains it’s still a decent effort, considering Suzuki is overseeing the entire production.
@D4IZ6N_EFX” expresses their excitement as a manga enthusiast, stating that the current point in the story is exceptional. They can’t fathom why others are complaining, particularly with the new opening sequence. They are eagerly awaiting the release day and counting down the minutes.
As an observer, I find myself in the midst of a fervent following for the manga titled “Sakamoto Days,” penned by Yuto Suzuki and published weekly in Shonen Jump. Even before the anime’s announcement, this series had garnered a substantial fanbase. From snippets of conversation among fans, it seems that anticipation runs high as some eagerly await the series, while others express satisfaction with its adaptation. Mark your calendars for January 11th, 2025, when the anime will grace our screens on Netflix.
