2025 Golden Globes: Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo Spent 5 Hours on Nails

There’s a strange exhilaration in such total devotion to Wicked.

Instead of directly saying “Just ask Cynthia Erivo,” you could rephrase it as: “Feel free to inquire about the thoughts and feelings of Cynthia Erivo, who graced the stage at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on January 5. She’s among the nominees for Best Actress in a Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy category, alongside Amy Adams for ‘Nightbitch,’ Karla Sofía Gascón for ‘Emilia Pérez,’ Mikey Madison for ‘Anora,’ Demi Moore for ‘The Substance,’ and Zendaya for ‘Challengers.’

At the red carpet event, Erivo revealed how her entire lifestyle has transformed following her role in the Broadway production with Ariana Grande – this even extends to her choices on the red carpet. (Take a look at all the stars gracing the Golden Globes here.)

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been experimenting with the silhouettes and structures of various black dresses, even though Elphaba is identified by her green skin, she tends to favor black attire. Recently, I shared this insight exclusively with Zuri Hall during our chat on Live From TopMob: Golden Globes. To add a touch of uniqueness, we’ve been incorporating pops of green here and there.

Meanwhile, at the Globes, Erivo, aged 37, accented her neutral ensemble with a hint of green on her extended nail polish.

“This took five hours,” she shared of her nails. “My wonderful manicurist did it today.”

Regardless of style, Erivo’s life has undergone a positive transformation due to her friendship with Grande, both on and off the set.

Erivo clarified, “There’s a lot more than what meets the eye when we’re not on screen. It includes our private chats that nobody overhears and the moments we share together once the cameras stop rolling.

At times, we’re simply playful,” she went on, “and we’ve developed unique methods of understanding each other without words. It’s something I treasure about our relationship. Over time, we’ve come to truly understand one another. I can sense when you’re tired and you can tell when I am, when I’m anxious, you know it too. We’ve grown so attuned that we almost intuitively know each other’s needs. It’s been a beautiful journey, learning about each other in this way, and it’s simply delightful.

Beyond the realm of style, Erivo has undeniably been impacted positively by her friendship with Grande, both on and off the filming location.

Erivo clarified that there’s more to us than what’s shown on-camera. This includes private discussions we have when no one is listening and the moments we spend together once the cameras stop rolling.

Sometimes we’re a bit goofy,” she went on. “We’ve developed unique ways of understanding one another without words. I find that endearing about us. We’ve come to understand each other deeply. I can tell when she’s tired, and she can tell when I am, I can sense her nervousness, and she can sense mine. We seem to know precisely what the other needs. After spending so much time together, we’ve learned to adapt to each other in a way that has been simply delightful.

Apart from being thrilled about her own Golden Globe nomination, Erivo is equally proud of Grande’s recognition in the category of Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture. Moreover, Wicked received nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement – Motion Picture.

After learning about my Globes nomination,” Erivo expressed, “words fail me as I try to convey just how significant this moment is for me.

She went on saying, “It’s not just this single nomination that excites me, but the fact that I get to witness the recognition for both this project and my ‘Wicked’ family.” Being involved in this project has been a long-cherished dream, and portraying Elphaba, a character who resonates with everyone who’s ever felt out of place and empowers them by showing they can transcend gravity, has been an unparalleled privilege.
