Sofía Vergara was not going to take her 2025 Golden Globes loss sitting down. Literally.
Following the Griselda star’s loss of the Best Actress award for a Miniseries or Motion Picture—Television to Jodie Foster for True Detective: Night Country at the ceremony on January 5th, Sofía humorously expressed her feelings of disappointment.
Sofia jumped up and shouted after hearing Jodie’s name announced by presenters Seth Rogen and Catherine O’Hara. From the stage, Jodie acknowledged with a “I know, I know.”
Upon hearing her name called by presenters Seth Rogen and Catherine O’Hara, Sofia quickly stood up and yelled out to Jodie. On stage, Jodie simply responded with “I get it, I get it.
After securing her fifth Golden Globe award, Sofia’s excitement echoed through the crowd with her exclamation, “I want one too!” (Here are all the winners.)
However, Jodie took the moment to acknowledge her fellow nominees—specifically mentioning Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), Naomi Watts (Feud Capote vs. the Swans), and Kate Winslet (The Regime). She added, “It’s fantastic to be at this age and in this era, surrounded by such a community. And Sofía, you stand out among them.
Apart from being 62, she too became tearful while expressing gratitude towards her loved ones, such as her spouse Alexandra Hedison, who they’ve been married for ten years, as well as their children Charlie (age 26) and Kit (age 23).
Jodie proudly spoke about “Kit, my son who’s a scientist, and Charlie, my actor son just beginning his journey,” expressing the immense pride and happiness she feels from their significant, impactful accomplishments.
I’m utterly smitten, and I just had to express it! This is dedicated to my beloved trio – my boys, whom I adore beyond measure. And to the love of my existence, Alex, my eternal gratitude goes out to you.
Even though Jodie spoke kindly, Sofia was far from finished. As the camera returned to her during Jodie’s speech, the 52-year-old showed her appreciation with a big round of applause but, looking at the camera, she sighed exasperatedly and raised her hands in frustration.
Jodie’s loss was particularly noticeable because she had previously outperformed Sofia at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
