According to an article from The Verge, both LG and Samsung have announced plans to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) trends in their upcoming products, with Microsoft’s Copilot also joining the fray.
In simpler terms, LG’s announcement unveils an array of AI terminology, describing how advanced language models (large language models or LLMs) will transform TV use by enabling users to create personalized backdrops using voice commands, as well as offering program suggestions based on your viewing patterns. Essentially, it’s like the Windows Recall feature, except it won’t store your credit card details; instead, it reveals your private binge-watching habits of shows such as Naked and Afraid and The Kardashians.
In simpler terms, Microsoft Copilot enters the picture by making it easier for users to locate and organize complex information quickly. The AI chatbot also anticipates potential issues that users might encounter and promptly provides relevant and helpful solutions, enhancing the overall user experience.
Essentially, it seems that Copilot might be coming to LG TVs as a straightforward web application, which isn’t something people were actively requesting. Similarly, Samsung, in partnership with Microsoft, announced the introduction of new Smart TVs and Smart Monitors featuring Microsoft Copilot. This collaboration will allow users to access various Copilot services, including personalized content suggestions.
Samsung and LG are investigating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve video quality, specifically enhancing HD videos to 4K resolution and increasing frame smoothness. It’s worth noting that Samsung isn’t excluding collaboration with its key partner Google in this area, as Google’s Gemini platform is rapidly advancing to match or surpass services powered by OpenAI: “Samsung also intends to collaborate closely with prominent AI partners like Google and others to broaden the capabilities of Vision AI.
Initially playing catch-up with the surge in artificial intelligence (AI), Google quickly gained ground and became a leading contender, particularly in video generation technology. However, Google has experienced setbacks by attempting to incorporate AI services within YouTube and Google Search, two platforms that have often been sources of spreading misinformation.
Consumers are still ambivalent towards AI apps and services
Despite the vast amount of funds being invested in AI at present, I would contend that we have yet to see a truly transformative consumer application or service, often referred to as the “killer app.” Solutions like Copilot, ChatGPT, and Google Gemini primarily serve to enhance search engines, although they do possess the ability to mimic human speech and gather information from websites. This capability, however, may inadvertently lead to revenue loss for those sites.
In a different vein, the role of business and creative tools is distinct. Adobe, for instance, has innovatively employed AI to boost functionality in Photoshop and Premier, providing efficient tools that significantly reduce time spent. Similarly, Github and Visual Studio Copilot have emerged as essential elements, improving programming productivity remarkably.
Although Microsoft’s Copilot integration with Windows hasn’t significantly impacted Google’s search supremacy, even though it comes pre-installed on numerous computers. The marketing campaign for “Copilot+ PC” has been met with skepticism, as many potential customers have shown little interest in Microsoft’s tendency to create consumer products that people don’t seem to desire.
Despite no clear end in sight for the ongoing excitement, it’s evident that numerous companies such as xAI, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Meta, and others are eagerly competing to pioneer the widespread adoption of this technology among the public.
