Alan Wake 2 Director Discusses Aspiration to Become the “European Version” of Naughty Dog

Remedy Entertainment has been experiencing a streak of success recently, having released games such as Control and the upcoming Alan Wake 2. Their future projects seem equally exciting, with Firebreak (FBC) set for release this year. The Max Payne 1 + 2 remake is currently in full swing, followed by Control 2, slated for 2025.

As the production quality improves, it’s intriguing to see how Remedy has been influenced by Naughty Dog, particularly from their work on ‘The Last of Us’. This isn’t a new trend; in fact, Kyle Rowley, director of ‘Alan Wake 2’, mentioned this during the Behind the Voice podcast while they were working on ‘Quantum Break’.

Upon arriving at “Quantum Break,” I felt thrilled to contribute to a project that resembled one of my favorite games – “Uncharted” – at the time. During our conversations with our lead animator, I expressed my desire for us to strive towards creating something similar to Naughty Dog, but with a European touch.

It’d be fantastic if we could replicate the same engaging atmosphere, as that’s the kind of game I enjoy immensely. I was thrilled at the prospect of contributing to its development.” Given the resounding success of Alan Wake 2, which has sold over 1.8 million copies by November 2024, it’s clear that Remedy has demonstrated a remarkable knack for creating compelling narratives.
