The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri Recreates Julia Roberts' 1990 Globes Look

We simply can’t bear Ayo Edebiri’s latest red carpet moment.

At the 2025 Golden Globes held in Los Angeles on January 5th, I proudly stepped out, having been nominated for my role in season three of the dark comedy. Instead of taking a risk with an oversized blunder reminiscent of a certain fashion faux pas (let’s call it a HUGTopMob mistake), I chose a suit inspired by the elegant Julia Roberts. It was a confident choice, and I felt fabulous!

Indeed, the 29-year-old drew inspiration from one of Julia Roberts’s most memorable red carpet appearances in “Pretty Woman,” giving it a contemporary update courtesy of Loewe. Ayo made a striking fashion declaration by donning an oversized gray suit and gold tie for the event, emulating the almost identical outfit Julia wore at the 1990 Globes ceremony where she received the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “Steel Magnolias.

Ayo finished off her outfit inspired by men’s fashion with a pair of gray loafers and hairstyle reminiscent of Julia’s style from more than three decades back.

In my dedication to emulating a tribute-worthy style, I collaborated extensively with the talented Danielle Goldberg over several months. Together, we partnered closely with Loewe’s Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson, to bring our vision to life.

As a follower who found themselves in conversation about fashion, I recalled Julia Roberts’s striking grey suit from the ’90 Golden Globes. Ayo, who missed out on the Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy category this year to Jean Smart of ‘Hacks’, shared with Vogue that we’ve been discussing this iconic look since around October or November. Seeing it resurface lately has felt like serendipity of the wildest kind for these past few days.

Ayo was also inspired by another Golden Globe-nominated film.

As a connoisseur of style, I found myself utterly captivated by the enchanting costumes crafted by Jonathan for Luca Guadagnino’s movie “Queer.” The concept of experimenting with menswear, particularly a suit that embodied the essence of that particular era, was simply irresistible to me.

In the 2023 awards season, Ayo accomplished an exceptional achievement by bagging a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the same role. However, amidst all the praise and recognition, she confessed that her younger self was not overly focused on critical acclaim.

In terms of health insurance, let’s talk about something else: The actress had earlier expressed how fulfilling her portrayal of Sydney Adamu has been for her.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2024, Ayo expressed that work can be extremely private, emotional, and deeply personal. He further explained that when one is engaged in creative or creatively linked industries, it often stirs intense emotions, fueled by a strong sense of passion.

During the January 5th ceremony where Jeremy Allen White earned his second Globe for portraying Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in The Bear, he generously lauded his fellow actor.

He shared with the media that they genuinely appreciate each other both during filming and outside of it. He has great admiration for her not only as a person, but also as an artist.
