How to get Jonathan Bailey in Richard II tickets as theatre sale goes live

Next month, instead of Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey will be taking the stage in a fresh London performance of Richard II.

I’m thrilled to share that for a brief period, the actor who won ours hearts portraying the charismatic Lord Anthony Bridgerton, and later enchanting us as Fiyero in the Wicked film, will be stepping into the leading role of a timeless Shakespearean historical character.

The performance is set at the Bridge Theatre, where actor Bailey will rejoin forces with director Nicholas Hytner, whom he collaborated with during the National Theatre’s production of Othello in the past.

Amongst Bailey’s extensive stage performances, he played Edgar in Ian McKellen’s production of King Lear during the 2017 Chichester Festival, and he was honored with an Olivier Award for his interpretation of Jamie in Company.

In less popular terms from Shakespeare’s works, Richard II recounts an enthralling tale about a hasty and imprudent king who found himself ensnared in a plan to bring about his downfall, a scheme that ultimately led England into conflict.

In pondering over Shakespeare’s play, I often find myself wondering: “What should one do when a ruler is woefully unfit? How does one depose a legitimate leader who has proven himself unworthy?” The play seems to support Richard’s claim to the throne, yet it also hints at Henry Bolingbroke’s superior leadership qualities.

How indeed? Well, let’s find out. Here’s how to get tickets to the upcoming production.
