PlayStation Reveals New Midnight Black PS5 DualSense, PS Portal, and Additional Accessories

PlayStation is planning to unveil a fresh lineup of PS5 accessories in a sleek “Midnight Black” design, following the successful launch of their 30th Anniversary PS5 consoles, controllers, and other items inspired by the original PlayStation 1 towards the end of 2024. In contrast to this nostalgic release, the company aims to kick off 2025 with a collection of PS5 accessories that will likely remind fans of their beloved PlayStation 2.

On the PlayStation Blog, Sony unveiled its latest collection of PS5 accessories, all in a sleek Midnight Black design. This includes a revamped DualSense Edge controller, PlayStation Portal, Pulse Elite headset, and Pulse Explore earbuds, each adorned entirely in black. These new PS5 accessories align with the existing Midnight Black DualSense controllers and console covers that have been available for some time. The new Midnight Black products will hit shelves next month on February 20th, with pre-orders starting from January 16th.

You can get a look at all of these new Midnight Black PS5 accessories in the trailer here:

Sony’s description highlights that every accessory in the Midnight Black collection boasts a distinctive, deep shade of black, accentuated by stylish details on various buttons and emblems like the PlayStation logo. This sophisticated black theme is carried over to the accompanying accessories such as the charging case for Pulse Explore earbuds, the charging stand for Pulse Elite headset, and the carrying case for DualSense Edge controller. To complete the collection, the Pulse Elite wireless headphones and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds will come with a felt grey carry case as well.

I’ve got to admit, what really draws me in with the Midnight Black collection for PS5 is its striking resemblance to the iconic color scheme of the original PS2. It’s clear that Sony is paying homage to its roots by releasing a series of PS5 accessories that echo the designs of the PS1 and PS2. This nod to nostalgia suggests they’re capitalizing on the enduring appeal and memories associated with the PlayStation brand. Whether we’ll see more of this trip down memory lane in the coming months remains to be seen, but I can’t wait to find out!
