2025 marks the year when Snapdragon X-powered mini PCs are set to dominate the market! Lenovo is getting in on the action by introducing two new models: IdeaCentre Mini X for consumers and ThinkCentre Neo 50q for commercial clients.
The devices in question will run on either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X or Snapdragon X Plus System on Chip (SoC), both of which incorporate a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering 45 TeraOps (TOPS) and qualifying them for Copilot+ functionalities. However, it seems that Lenovo isn’t currently planning to release these compact computers with the Snapdragon X Elite SoC; this option might become available in the future.
The recently introduced Snapdragon X is Qualcomm’s newest Processor System for Computers (SoC), marking a new entry-level benchmark in the market. This chipset is intended to lower the cost of Snapdragon PCs, making them affordable within the $600 price range. For those seeking a budget-friendly alternative priced comparably to an Apple Mac Mini M4, but with the added advantages of Windows and Snapdragon technology, this could be an attractive option.
Lenovo positions these computers as suitable for professionals, artists, and programmers, and they could potentially serve as a viable substitute for Qualcomm’s discontinued Developer Kit. The IdeaCentre Mini can be customized to include up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD storage, while the ThinkCentre Neo 50q can be configured with 16GB of RAM and features two swappable M.2 storage slots for increased storage capacity.
It’s more appealing for most individuals to opt for the IdeaCentre Mini due to its enhanced user experience, as compared to the ThinkCentre, which is primarily intended for business clients and may not possess the same aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the IdeaCentre offers superior connectivity options, including support for Wi-Fi 7, a feature that’s currently unavailable on the ThinkCentre with its Wi-Fi 6E compatibility.
According to Peter Burns, senior director of product marketing at Lenovo, the integration of Snapdragon X Series Platforms into mini-PCs signifies a significant milestone in the progression of personal computing. By opting for a mini-PC equipped with Snapdragon, you’re not just purchasing a potent device; instead, you’re selecting a computing experience that offers swift performance, remarkable energy efficiency, and cutting-edge intelligence. Whether for work purposes or entertainment, mini-PCs powered by Snapdragon are poised to transform our perspective on desktops, providing an unparalleled experience that surpasses the conventional in terms of power.
Beginning in April, you can purchase the IdeaCentre Mini for approximately $659.99. The ThinkCentre Neo 50q will be available for purchase in June, priced at around $699.99. Despite not offering the same level of raw performance as Apple’s Mac Mini M4, these devices provide strong competition within the Windows market, particularly with their impressive performance at budget-friendly prices.
