In their latest installment, Netflix’s “Squid Game” Season 2 has continued its success as part of the popular Korean TV series lineup. However, there’s been a blunder in the second season that’s garnered unwanted attention. Similar to the controversy surrounding “Game of Thrones,” the creators of “Squid Game” Season 2 made a significant error in the editing room – they overlooked and neglected to remove a shot of one of the camera operators, who accidentally appeared onscreen during a tense gunfight scene.
It’s no secret that the Internet remains the Internet, and the cinematographer of Squid Game has become an undeniable sensation across various social media platforms, earning viral meme status.
Thus far, memes based on the TV show “Squid Game” are just beginning to bloom. Fans are quick to spot production errors, such as incorrectly placed circles and arrows on still images, or clips from the series that have been edited for comedic effect. The humor initially centered around jokes like “someone from ‘Squid Game’ or Netflix is going to be fired over this.” However, some viewers are delving deeper into speculation, questioning if these errors resemble those seen frequently during the final season of “Game of Thrones” (like coffee cups left on set and visible in finished scenes), or if they could hint at a larger secret about the Squid Games themselves?
Is Squid Game S2’s “Cameraman” an Intentional Character?
Some viewers are speculating whether the camera operator in the series might be a real character, hinting at a potential revelation about his identity in the future season of Squid Game.
In a high-octane sequence, we see the cameraman’s point of view as returning champion Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) and his comrades, united by shared goals, launch a fierce uprising against the facility workers. Their objective? To seize control from the game masters, hoping to secure their freedom. The insurgents overpower certain workers, taking their weapons, and seizing control of the dormitory area, moving further into the game’s infrastructure. Unfortunately, the rebels are unaware that their secondary leader, Player 001, is none other than the masked Front Man who oversees the games. As it turns out, this rebellion was doomed from the start: many of the rebel players meet a tragic end, and the Front Man re-captures Gi-hun.
During the short-lived uprising, the rebels strategically destroyed the cameras at the game facility as part of their coordinated effort – an effort that Player 001/The Front Man played a role in developing. Some spectators speculate that “the cameraman” is an international figure, serving The Front Man’s purpose of obtaining exciting footage of the tightly managed uprising to entertain high-ranking viewers who watch the events as a form of sport. It’s possible that this rebellion was merely another staged game, designed to determine which participants would participate in the uprising and prolong the number of players involved.
Absolutely, there are several issues with that theory. For instance, no one in the scene seems to notice the presence of a cameraman, and he only appears in a single frame. However, a keen observer has put it quite well: “If you think about it, those in charge might be watching the game through the cameras, so even if camera men accidentally end up in the shot, they could easily blend in.
No matter what the true narrative unfolds, fans of Squid Game are already making this moment a noteworthy and amusing highlight – one they’ll remember for quite some time.
Squid Game Seasons 1 & 2 are streaming on Netflix.
