In our initial evaluation of the first ASUS Vivobook S 15 laptop for Windows Central, it nearly aced our tests and was granted the Best Award. My fellow reviewer, Zac Bowden, noted that “Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite in this device serves as a formidable counterpart to Apple Silicon, transforming a good laptop into an exceptional one.” Later at IFA 2024, ASUS introduced more Intel-based AI PCs to the market.
In my exploration, I discovered that our company had not yet exhausted its plans for Qualcomm’s ARM-based systems-on-chip (SoC). Today, during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, we unveiled a series of new Zenbook and Vivobook laptops.
ASUS returns to ARM for its new Copilot+ PCs
According to Windows Central’s Editor-in-Chief Daniel Rubino, the standout new laptop from ASUS at CES is his top pick. He devoted a special article to the Zenbook A14 (UX3407), which I highly recommend reading.
In this discussion, I’ll be talking about the latest ASUS Copilot+ PCs such as the Vivobook 14 and 16 models, which are similar to the Zenbook A14 in terms of their power source. The brand new Vivobooks utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) chip, known for its long battery life and a powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with 45 TOPS, capable of handling local AI tasks. These features also support Windows 11’s Copilot+ functionalities.
According to ASUS, this new chip could potentially enhance performance by up to 44% compared to its predecessor, along with offering up to 19.8 hours of battery life. These numbers represent significant advancements, and it’ll be intriguing to observe how closely these estimates align with real-world performance.
If you’re more inclined towards an x86 laptop, ASUS has introduced the Vivobook 14 and 16 models equipped with AMD’s Ryzen AI 7 350 or Ryzen AI 5 340 processors, unveiled at CES. Rest assured that you won’t have to compromise on screen quality, as all variants feature either a 14-inch or 16-inch IPS-level display with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 1920×1200 (FHD+).
As one who closely follows tech trends, particularly ASUS products, I am eagerly anticipating the updates to their new Vivobook models in 2024. Given that they have consistently delivered some of our favorite Copilot+ PCs, it’s intriguing to see how they will leverage their expertise with these new devices. Historically, the Vivobook line has been more budget-friendly compared to the premium Zenbook series, a trend that seems to be continuing with the integration of the Snapdragon X chip.
You can now pre-order the ARM-based ASUS VivoBook 14 and 16 from the official ASUS website for $699.99 and $749.99 respectively. The upcoming VivoBook models featuring AMD hardware will be slightly more expensive, with a starting price of $749.99 set for Q1 2025 launch.
More new ASUS laptops were announced at CES 2025
My focus is currently divided between the ASUS Zenbook A14 and the latest Vivobook Copilot+ computers, but I’m eagerly anticipating even more offerings from ASUS.
At CES 2025, they unveiled a fresh Zenbook 14 model equipped with Intel’s newest Core Ultra Series 2 processors and AMD Ryzen AI 300 CPUs. This laptop is planned for release on January 27th and will carry a starting price of $1,299.99.
In the realm of gaming and content creation, the upcoming ASUS VivoBook Pro 15 is a more substantial device boasting Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285H processor, an NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop graphics card, and a 15.6-inch OLED screen with a 2.8K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and coverage of 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. ASUS anticipates its release in Q1 2025, starting at $1,399.99.
