2024 saw another wave of layoffs at Rocksteady Studios, the team behind the upcoming game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, who had previously gained fame from Batman: Arkham series.
According to Eurogamer’s report, they consulted about half a dozen unnamed employees who have been impacted by the latest round of layoffs.
Last September, Rocksteady Studios made a decision to downsize their QA team, which wasn’t publicly disclosed at the time. Similarly, recent layoffs within the company have not been announced. It appears that members from the programming, art teams, and additional staff from the previously mentioned QA division have been affected by these job cuts.
2024 proved to be a challenging year for the broader industry with numerous layoffs. As for Rocksteady, it appeared that trouble was brewing due to the persistent issues surrounding Suicide Squad. This high-priced project underperformed dramatically, failing to meet its projected targets.
Unfortunately, once again, it’s disheartening to witness layoffs due to misguided projects. Here’s hoping that the year 2025 brings better fortunes and success for developers all around.
