Ubisoft Reworks Assassin’s Creed Shadows Parkour To Make It Better Than Ever

At long last, this coveted locale will serve as a playground in the upcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft is pulling out all the stops to deliver an exceptional experience with the next mainline entry in the Assassin’s Creed series. Notably, they are focusing on refining the core aspects of gameplay – parkour and movement mechanics. Intriguingly, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature two distinct characters and playstyles to ensure a unique gaming experience while maintaining a harmonious system that feels consistent for both Naoe and Yasuke’s approaches.

Ubisoft is ready to take up the task, revamping the parkour and movement system in “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. In a recent blog post about the game, Simon Lemay-Comtois, an Associate Game Director for “Shadows”, explained: “This required us to be more mindful when designing parkour routes that are engaging, giving us greater control over where Naoe can move and where Yasuke cannot, thereby making our two playstyles even more distinct.” One of the significant adjustments made to achieve this distinction was modifying the crouch and dodge buttons on the controller, enabling the dodge mechanics to seamlessly transition into parkour.

Lemay-Comtois labels Naoe as a genuine master of parkour, and this proficiency is evident in her fluid movements. Naoe’s agility gives her the capacity to leap greater distances and scale greater heights with ease, making it seem almost effortless for her to traverse rooftops, scale walls, and outmaneuver pursuers. Compared to Naoe, Yasuke possesses similar abilities but his movements are slightly less swift and graceful.

A significant shift in gameplay mechanics is observed concerning stealth and parkour maneuvers in the new version. For instance, Lemay-Comtois points out the contrast between jumping versus descending. Players are accustomed to using a specific button for descending and hanging onto a ledge before continuing their climb. However, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players have the option of executing stylish acrobatic moves to evade over and down ledges as well.

Naoe’s speedy runs have undergone adjustments, giving her a special move called the sprint dodge. With this skill, she can swiftly dive and roll over various obstacles like fences, crates, guardrails, windowsills, and so on. This maneuver is particularly useful for dodging arrows and creating more space between herself and her chasers. On the other hand, Yasuke leverages his bulky structure to execute a powerful shoulder tackle while sprinting. This move eliminates destructible objects and adversaries that come in his way.

Among the many intriguing features, the standout one is the grappling hook, as Lemay-Comtois puts it, “it’s essential for any shinobi game.” Naoe’s grappling hook empowers her to scale greater heights and traverse grapple points. What’s more, she can combine wall-running with the grappling hook to access a ledge that would typically be out of reach.
