Friday Night Lights Star Reveals They’ve Been Asked Back for Reboot

After the news broke about the remake of Friday Night Lights on Peacock, Taylor Kitsch, who starred as Tim Riggins in the original show, hinted during his interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw that he has been approached for the reboot. However, he didn’t elaborate further and simply stated that we should leave it at that. The Emmy Award-winning series, which aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011, featured Kitsch as one of its main characters. During the interview, Kitsch mentioned that he was asked to be part of the reboot but expressed no desire to lead the revival series. Instead, he suggested he might make a guest appearance in an episode or two.

When asked if he might consider taking on a new role in the upcoming revival, Kitsch mused, “That sounds entertaining,” but added, “If you saw me as someone else, you’d probably say, ‘That looks just like Riggins.'” He jokingly suggested that his ideal role for a Riggins cameo would be playing “the coach of the opposing team or something similar and appear on-screen for around eight seconds. I’d certainly do that.

The reboot of “Friday Night Lights” is being developed by its original creator Peter Berg, showrunner Jason Katims, and executive producer Brian Grazer. The new series will focus on a struggling high school football team, along with their temporary coach, who embark on an unexpected journey towards the Texas state championship, serving as a source of hope for their town after a devastating hurricane.

As a devoted fan of “Friday Night Lights,” I can’t help but share the words of Kyle Chandler, who masterfully played Coach Eric Taylor. In 2015, he made it clear that he wasn’t keen on any revival or spin-off of the series. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he articulated his feelings: “It concluded so elegantly, so perfectly. And I was more than content when it ended, as we couldn’t have pushed the story much further.

In the brand-new Netflix limited series called “American Primeval,” Kitsch teams up with Berg once more. The series is helmed by Berg in terms of direction and executive production, while it was created and written by Mark L. Smith. The official description for the show goes as follows: “Imagine America…1857. Things are not what they seem; pain is rampant, tranquility and innocence are being overpowered by hatred and fear. Peace is becoming increasingly scarce, and only a select few can exhibit grace or empathy. There’s no sanctuary in these harsh territories, and the sole objective remains: survival. “American Primeval” provides a fictionalized portrayal and exploration of the clash between culture, religion, and community as people struggle and perish to claim or retain this land.

Beginning on Thursday, January 9, 2025, the series “American Primeval” will be available for streaming on Netflix. Meanwhile, you can either rent or purchase seasons of the original “Friday Night Lights” series on Amazon Prime Video.
