After leaving Annapurna Interactive last year, it appears that the previous team members have reunited to form a new company. This newly formed group has reportedly assumed ownership of all titles within the indie label Private Division’s collection. Notably, Private Division was previously sold by Take-Two Interactive last year.
As a gaming enthusiast, if this information is correct, it means that the talented team behind indie hits like Outer Wilds and Sayonara Wild Hearts will now be taking the reins for the Kerbal Space Program series, the upcoming Lord of the Rings agricultural sim titled Tales of the Shire, and the next game from Game Freak – known for creating Pokémon. This could potentially lead to some exciting new developments in these beloved gaming worlds!
Last year, the entire Annapurna Interactive team departed due to a disagreement with their owner, Megan Ellison. On the other hand, Take-Two sold off its independent publishing label to an undisclosed purchaser, reportedly Texas-based private equity firm Haveli Investments, as per Bloomberg’s reports.
It’s reported that Haveli Investments has entered into an agreement with the ex-Annapurna Interactive group, providing funding for their new company and allowing them to handle the distribution of Haveli’s games. Given the team’s clear expertise in publishing, this move doesn’t appear to be a bad call.
Although the acquisition includes around 20 employees from Private Division, Bloomberg suggests that these individuals might lose their jobs, but no definitive decisions have been made yet.
