The Jurassic Park series has some inaccuracies regarding how dinosaurs are portrayed, and one YouTuber, CoolioArt, has made modifications to reflect this. Since the premiere of Jurassic Park, numerous scientific discoveries about dinosaurs have been made, such as many species having feathers. In a recent video by CoolioArt, the original Raptors from Jurassic Park are given a significant overhaul based on these findings. In the video below, CoolioArt redesigns the chase sequence of the human characters being chased by Velociraptors, giving the dinosaurs a bird-like appearance with feathers, wings, and an overall avian design.
The video abruptly stops as the T-Rex enters the scene to confront the Raptors (thus unknowingly protecting the humans). The video concludes with the message “No T-rex Model Available :(“. In essence, this creative interpretation of Jurassic Park provides a unique and amusing perspective on the Velociraptors.
In the 1990s, when it was yet undiscovered that Velociraptors had feathers, Dr. Alan Grant from “Jurassic Park”, portrayed by Sam Neill, appeared to be one of the pioneers advocating this idea. Throughout the film, Grant suggests that dinosaurs might share more characteristics with contemporary birds than they do with reptiles, pointing out various biological and anatomical similarities between them. A skeptical child in the audience dismissively compares Raptors to a “six-foot turkey”, which Grant firmly disputes by detailing the lethal hunting abilities of these prehistoric creatures.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed that the Jurassic Park series has made a conscious effort to make their portrayal of dinosaurs more scientifically accurate. For instance, in 2001’s Jurassic Park III, they revamped the Velociraptors by giving them head appendages that mimicked feathers. More recently, in Jurassic World: Dominion from 2022, we see a number of feathered Raptors, while still maintaining a consistent design for their most iconic dinosaurs like the Velociraptors.
The story of the Jurassic Park series started with Michael Crichton’s science fiction novel titled Jurassic Park, which was published in 1990. Following the launch of the 1993 film Jurassic Park, this franchise has been known as Hollywood’s leading dinosaur-themed adventure collection. Despite Jurassic World: Dominion initially being seen as wrapping up the series, this break only lasted for three years, with Jurassic World: Rebirth scheduled to hit theaters on July 2, 2025.
In the vast gap of time between dinosaurs and humans, it’s almost inevitable that when depicting dinosaurs in modern films, some degree of creative liberty and scientific inaccuracy will be employed, intentionally or otherwise. This is supported by a casual online search revealing that the portrayal of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, as oversized turkeys, isn’t too far from reality based on current scientific understanding. With technological advancements in digital art and video editing, content creators like CoolioArt can reinvent the terrifying yet comical experience of being pursued by a six-foot tall creature resembling a turkey, as demonstrated in their Jurassic Park remakes on YouTube.
