A high-quality controller can greatly impact the gaming experience, especially in terms of fast responses and overall game feel. Although most consoles come with at least one controller, many gamers opt to improve their experience by choosing a controller that aligns with their preferences. There are numerous third-party options available, but console manufacturers often release premium versions of their controllers for players’ enjoyment (at a cost). For instance, Sony offers the DualSense Edge controller as an upgrade option for the PS5.
The DualSense Edge controller debuted in the year 2023, marketed as PlayStation’s initial high-performance, ultra-customizable controller. It grants players numerous personalization choices, including adjustable triggers and the ability to fine-tune stick sensitivity, vibration strength, and additional settings.
The controller offers enhanced customization options, including extra assignable side buttons. Sharing controllers becomes hassle-free with the DualSense Edge as it lets users create personalized profiles that store their settings. This means effortlessly switching between profiles without having to remap everything each time.
The DualSense Edge, boasting high-end features, comes at a price point consistent with its marketing hype, typically around $200 USD in the U.S., or equivalent to £209.99 / €239.99 in Europe – nearly twice as much as a standard wireless DualSense controller. However, for certain gamers, this cost is set to decrease.
DualSense Edge Controller Now Cheaper for Gamers in the UK and Europe
In Europe, the price of the DualSense Edge has decreased approximately £10 or €20, bringing it down to around £199.99 or €219.99. This reduction appears to be a permanent adjustment, as Sony’s website reflects the new retail price. Regrettably, the cost in the US remains unchanged, with the controller still priced at its original value for now.
It’s unclear why Sony is raising prices, but there’s speculation that it could be due to the upcoming launch of a new series of PS5 accessories, such as the Midnight Black Collection which they announced recently and are slated for release in February 2025.
This collection features the latest edition of the DualSense Edge controller, a Playstation Portal remote player, PULSE Explore Wireless Earbuds, and a PULSE Elite Wireless headset. As the name implies, they’re all in sleek jet black, coordinating with the previously released Midnight Black DualSense wireless controller. Notably, the newly launched Midnight Black DualSense Edge will maintain the reduced pricing despite being a fresh release. Excited PS5 enthusiasts can preorder this set starting January 16 at 10am local time, directly from the PlayStation website.
The prices for all colors of the DualSense Edge controller except Midnight Black have already gone live. If you don’t have your heart set on the Midnight Black model, there’s no need to wait because the difference in price between the UK/Europe and other regions makes it more affordable. As for US gamers, the price remains unchanged from its original cost.
