Scott Disick is keeping it real with his kids.
The star of the show “Flip it Like Disick“, who has children Mason (15) , Penelope (12), and Reign (10) with his ex, Kourtney Kardashian, openly discussed his past battles with alcohol dependency. He also shared that he doesn’t shy away from frank discussions about his addiction, even going so far as to divulge some of the candid conversations he’s had with Mason regarding this topic.
In the first episode of Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, “Khloé in Wonder Land,” he confided that he had indeed shared with Mason the impact and repercussions of my drinking habits, and he is aware of this. Previously, Mason believed I might treat him differently due to my past mistakes, but I assured him that wouldn’t be the case. I would treat him just as before, regardless of my past errors or lifestyle choices.
‘If I notice any issues with alcohol for you,’ the Kardashians star emphasized, ‘I’ll intervene. You can drink when you choose to, but if I spot a potential genetic issue, I’ll step in. Until then, you’re treated just like every other child.’
Since appearing on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Scott’s struggles with alcohol have been well-known, straining his relationship with Kourtney. This union ended permanently in 2015 after a decade. In 2020, following three years of sobriety, Scott sought help at a treatment center located in Edwards, Colorado.
Apart from our frequent discussions on maintaining a balanced approach towards alcohol, Mason frequently mentions his aunts Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Kim Kardashian as outstanding role models for him, particularly the eldest one.
He confided in Khloé, “I chat with him frequently about this topic. To put it simply, it could lead you down a dangerous path or an exciting one. I think the way Kendall and Kylie handle things is illustrative: they go out, have some drinks…and they manage to strike the right balance—while Kim abstains entirely, Kendall and Kylje can enjoy a few drinks, have fun, but stop there.
Khloé, who had a past DUI incident in 2007 that was shown on the program, acknowledged her struggles with alcohol and reminisced about an infamous event during Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kanye West in 2014. This particular moment took place during the pre-wedding party at the Palace of Versailles in Paris, where both Khloé and Scott indulged in excessive drinking.
The founder of Good American reminisced about a drinking challenge we had. I finished off an entire bottle of vodka, as I was grappling with a difficult divorce at the time, and wasn’t in the best mental state. We ended up wrestling on the floor in full view of thousands of spectators.
Having experienced embarrassment from their family and enduring a hangover during their journey to Italy for the event, Scott observed that he and Khloé would choose differently in this situation if given another chance today.
He remarked, “It’s hard to believe how wild it all seemed then, compared to now.” Clearly, there’s still enjoyment. However, it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t engage in activities like tossing bottles or wrestling in the gardens of Versailles anymore.

The star of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” quit drinking alcohol in 2022, as he felt controlled by it. In his own words on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, Holland acknowledged that he was indeed addicted to alcohol without any hesitation. He further stated that anyone who drinks a beer daily might have developed an issue to some extent.
In my experience, there comes a point when I find myself thinking, “I wish I hadn’t had that final drink last night,” and indeed, the next morning brings a throbbing headache.
After adopting this new lifestyle, Holland found that he’s been sleeping more soundly and managing issues more effectively.
He mentioned that issues on set which typically upset him, he could handle more easily now. He experienced significantly improved mental acuity, felt healthier and fitter overall.
As a die-hard admirer, I’ve always been intrigued by the man behind Captain Marko Ramius in “The Hunt for Red October”. Interestingly, he seldom shares insights about his near four-decade-long sobriety journey, a testament to his personal strength and resilience.
He mentioned that the topic isn’t something he talks about frequently but does bring up from time to time when it seems appropriate. He also shared that he has been sober for 39 years, with his sobriety date being February 23, 1985.
Regarding his life transition when he moved from New York City to Los Angeles in 1983, Alec described a two-year struggle with a severe addiction to cocaine. He joked that he might as well have done lines of coke from here to Saturn, such was the intensity of his usage. Essentially, cocaine was as common and casual as coffee during that era, with everyone using it constantly.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
In my own words, I’d say: “New York holds a captivating allure for me. Each time I wander its streets, I discover something new about it. A simple glance at a building could reveal an unexpected detail – like those doors I’ve never noticed before. I spend leisurely afternoons over meals and coffee with friends here.
In an interview with the New York Times in April 2024, the actress who starred in The Princess Diaries announced that she has been sober for over five years. She expressed that this achievement serves as a significant milestone for her.
Her thoughts were straightforward. She admitted, “Deep within, I knew it wasn’t suitable for me.” She continued, “It seemed overly intense to say ‘But nothing?’ Yet, ‘Nothing.’ If you have an allergy or suffer severe reactions to something, you don’t debate it. So, I stopped debating it.
She’s pleased with the choice she made, as she expressed, “I find myself thriving in this situation.” In her own words, “It’s been a positive influence for me.” Put simply, she dislikes dwelling on negative feelings.
Back in May 2023, the former member of One Direction marked a milestone by completing 100 days without alcohol. He shared his feelings then, saying, “I feel fantastic! I feel truly excellent, and the support from fans and everyone around has been tremendous.
His struggles started during the peak of 1D fandom madness. Speaking candidly about the band’s difficulties (and I don’t fault anyone for this…), it seems to me that as our fame grew, the only way to protect us was to confine us in a room. And you might wonder, what’s inside such a room? A minibar. Eventually, I found myself saying, “I’m going to throw my own party,” and this mindset persisted for several years of my life.
He has been open about his recovery from substance abuse. In June 2021, he admitted that he had been sober for over a month at the time and recalled, “It wasn’t until I saw those pictures of me on the boat that I realized, ‘Okay, it’s time to make a change.’ I call it the ‘pills-and-booze face.’ My face was significantly larger than it is now, and I didn’t like who I saw in those photos. So, I decided to turn things around.
During her acceptance speech for the 2018 Woman of the Year Award at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House, a home helping women overcome substance and alcohol addiction, Moore discussed the “damaging course” that almost halted her professional progression.
Reflecting on my life, I believe there are pivotal moments that mold our identity and choices. At the start of my career, I found myself sliding towards self-destructive behaviors, despite any achievements, I still didn’t feel worthy. I had an incredibly low self-esteem, and this destructive pattern led me to a critical juncture in my life. The cause wasn’t apparent at the time, but looking back, it seems as though some higher power may have intervened.
In 2012, Moore expressed gratitude towards two individuals she hardly knew for presenting her with a critical choice: either change her life or risk losing everything. She humorously stated, “Unless I was deceased, I had to show up,” implying the importance of seizing this opportunity to alter the trajectory of her life before it was too late.
Moore observed that others seemed to know a side of him that he wasn’t aware of himself. He expressed his deep gratitude for this insight, as it was through their faith in him that he finds himself here today.
Back in 2022, the former Friends cast member publicly disclosed that he had spent approximately $9 million in his journey towards sobriety. This was triggered by a dependency on alcohol and drugs, a struggle which began for him at just 14 years old when he turned to drinking Budweiser and Andrès Baby Duck. His issues with substances escalated further as he experimented with drugs such as Vicodin, Xanax, and OxyContin.
In a 2022 interview with The New York Times, I admitted to my past as a drug addict, marking 18 months of my sobriety journey. To feed my addiction, I would go so far as to fabricate back pain and migraines, seeing up to eight doctors simultaneously. Each morning, I’d find myself calculating the number of Vicodin I needed for the day – a grueling task that was essential to keep my habit alive. I’d visit one place and take three pills, then head to another location for five because I knew I’d be there longer. It was a never-ending math problem, but as an addict, it was a game I had to play – sickness or health, I had to keep up with the numbers or risk falling gravely ill.
He mentioned, “I didn’t do it for the thrill or to feel happy. I most definitely wasn’t a party animal; I simply desired to relax on my sofa, consume five Vicodin, and enjoy a film. That was my idea of paradise. However, it’s no longer so.
In 2022, Cyrus revealed that she has been recovering from her Xanax addiction since 2020. She explained to Rolling Stone, “It provided a structure I desperately needed at the time because I didn’t want to simply be idling and churning in my thoughts. It gave me hope.
In my own words, I’d express it like this: “When I realized there could be moments of tranquility where the world fades away and the pain subsides, that was when it ended for me.
She mentioned that her friends at one point seemed to tacitly approve of her drug use, creating a vicious cycle that felt bottomless and ominous. However, during the pandemic, Cyrus acknowledged facing difficulties and admitted she wasn’t emotionally engaged. “I would often find myself nodding off and falling asleep,” she reminisced, “unable to maintain consciousness or keep my eyes open as I had sunk so deeply.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”
16 years ago, the former cast member of “Parenthood” had been abstaining from substance use. However, in 2020, they resumed usage following a motorcycle accident, this time consuming Vicodin.
Over the past two months or so, he mentioned during his podcast on “Armchair Expert” that he’s been using these medications frequently. He’s authorized to do so at a certain dose due to his prescription, but he also takes additional amounts.
He went on to express his dislike for the situation, admitting he was deceiving others. He acknowledged the need to stop but found himself rapidly increasing his tolerance, now consuming around eight 30-milligram doses daily, a quantity he knew would lead to a severe withdrawal. This realization filled him with fear and loneliness, as he carried this heavy secret within him.
Back in 2018, I, a devoted fan, found myself deeply moved by the openness of the Halloween star as she shared her harrowing 10-year battle with opiate addiction, which started in the late ’80s following a minor cosmetic procedure to address my inherited puffy eyes. This seemingly innocent prescription altered the course of my life. “I lived a double life for ten years,” I confessed to People, “stealing, manipulating. Nobody knew, not a soul.
In the summer of 1998, when her sister visited and carried painkillers prescribed for a rib injury, Curtis admitted she had reached her lowest point. She confided to the publication, tears streaming down her face as she recalled the incident, “I knew she kept them in the guest room closet during her stay.” Essentially, I took all her opiates before she left. I was aware that when she packed up and noticed her pills missing, she would realize what I had done. So, I wrote her a letter and placed it on her suitcase. When she returned home, she hugged me, expressing love and concern, and revealing an unwillingness to watch me self-destruct.
On February 3, 1999, she went to her first meeting, coincidentally the same day she confided in her filmmaker spouse, Christopher Guest, about her struggle. According to her, he was astonished because he had never suspected it before. Since then, she has been living a sober life.
In 2021, Barrymore, who has previously sought treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, announced a significant accomplishment in her recovery. On CBS Mornings, she declared, “I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in nearly two and a half years.” She further stated that abstaining from alcohol was no longer beneficial to her life.
She expressed, “There’s something incredibly freeing yet exposing when we unveil our authentic selves, our hidden truths, and the accomplishments we’ve labored over – a perfect blend of liberation and vulnerability.
Later on, Barrymore clarified to the Los Angeles Times that she shuns the term “sober” as she doesn’t want others to perceive her as a “model Puritan” or someone who is morally flawless.
She said in 2023, “I had been telling myself, ‘I’ll get a handle on this, I’ll find the solution,’ but eventually, it dawned on me: ‘The truth is, I never truly mastered this, and I probably won’t.’
During the 2000s, the actor from A Star Is Born grappled with an issue of cocaine addiction. Eventually, his friend Will Arnett intervened and had a heart-to-heart talk with him regarding his actions.
Cooper shared during his 2022 interview on the Smartless podcast that it was the first moment he became aware of his struggle with substance abuse, an awareness that has stayed with him ever since.
Giving credit to Arnett, Cooper said, “He played a crucial role in my decision to go sober. His willingness to have a challenging discussion with me sparked the realization that I needed to alter my life’s course.
In simpler terms, the star of Fight Club battled alcohol addiction for many years, but eventually managed to get sober due to help from Cooper. He made this revelation at the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards when Cooper presented him with an award, stating, “Every day has been happier since then.
In September 2023, the former star of Cruel Intentions posted on Instagram that it had been the longest stretch since their teen years that they hadn’t used any form of nicotine or cannabis (along with other substances).
He also mentioned his gratitude for the liberation that follows the release from substance dependencies, saying instead, “The sensation of being free from addiction and substances is something I’m truly thankful for.” Additionally, he expressed that sobriety brings a sense of clarity, and a deeper spiritual connection, which he finds particularly fulfilling.
Following a triumphant six-year sobriety anniversary celebration during her tour in 2018, the singer shocked fans by releasing the candid song “Sober” later in the year. This revealing track disclosed that she had experienced a relapse in her journey towards sobriety.
She lamented, “Mom, I’m truly regretful that I’m no longer in control / Dad, please extend your forgiveness for the spilled drinks on the floor / To those who have always stood by me / We’ve traveled this road before, I’m sorry, I’m no longer sober.” She expressed this through song.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
Two weeks ago, she posted on Instagram that she’s been open about her struggle with addiction. She explained that this disease doesn’t simply go away; it’s an ongoing battle she hasn’t fully won yet. At present, she needs time to mend and concentrate on staying sober and recovering. The affection you all have shown her will always be remembered, and she eagerly awaits the moment when she can declare victory over this challenge. Until then, she remains steadfast in her fight.
In 2018, she reminisced about her struggles with addictions to sex and alcohol. “My addictive tendencies are versatile. They shift around. When I was younger, I believe I had a form of sex addiction, yes, that I thought everything could be resolved through sex,” she stated, before discussing the moment she recognized she had a concerning drinking issue.
In that particular moment, I found myself at an all-time low, alone in the house with two bottles of wine and contemplating a third. But then I paused and thought to myself, ‘Wait a minute. Here you are, by yourself, drinking your third bottle of wine? Perhaps there’s a bigger issue here that needs addressing.’
She explained, “I quit abruptly without any gradual reduction, which is something I often do. You see, I tend to get deeply involved in things, and I need to be mindful of myself to avoid becoming overly obsessed. It’s not just about the action itself, but the reasons behind it. The behavior connected to it is what’s crucial. If you enjoy having a lot of sex, that’s fantastic, but you should also question why you’re engaging in such frequent activities.
One of the Backstreet Boys band members experimented with drugs for the first time prior to filming the music video for “The Call” in 2000. He confessed years afterward to Good Morning America that he felt extremely energetic during the shoot, almost as if he had consumed excessive amounts of energy. After seeking help, he managed to overcome his addiction in 2021 and experienced numerous positive effects within a year. These benefits included shedding 32 pounds over a period of seven months by eliminating alcohol and fast food from his diet.
He shared with Today in September 2022 that alcohol consumption led to an increase in his weight, but it also negatively impacted his emotional well-being.
Following Mac Miller’s untimely demise, the rapper formerly known as Bow Wow revealed on Twitter his past struggle with codeine addiction. In his tweets, he admitted that during the recording of the album “Face Off” with Omarion, he was addicted to lean (a concoction made from cough syrup) and used it everyday. He also confessed that his erratic behavior on BET and towards Torae, as well as his strained relationships with fans and family, were a result of his addiction.
Bow Wow recounted his experience, saying he was addicted to lean for the entire UCP tour with Chris Brown, consuming at least 7 servings per day. He described a harrowing incident where he passed out during the show in Cincinnati and woke up in the hospital suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Reflecting on his near-death experience, Bow Wow emphasized the pain he felt and the physical effects it had on him, particularly his stomach. He expressed regret for using drugs to be cool and urged his followers to quit them, encouraging them to focus on being the best versions of themselves and living their lives.
In conclusion, Bow Wow encouraged his fans to break free from harmful trends, saying “DRUG FREE IS THE WAY TO BE.” He emphasized the importance of protecting young artists and children around the world from the dangers of drug abuse.
2018 was a year of raw honesty for me, as I released both my fourth studio album “No Shame” and my memoir “My Thoughts Exactly.” During this time, I openly discussed the darkest periods of my struggle with addiction. I found myself abusing cocaine and drinking to an alarming extent, often reaching a state of being “parasitically drunk.”
It was an incident at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party that brought things to a head. After inadvertently headbutting Orlando Bloom, I suffered a concussion. This wake-up call led to an intervention by none other than Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. They recognized the gravity of the situation and took action to help me get back on track.
In conversation with The Guardian, she admitted, “I felt nothing could touch or fulfill me. One morning during those difficult times, I found myself contemplating, ‘Perhaps heroin might be the solution, as nothing else seems effective.’
In the 1980s, an actor from The Parent Trap struggled with a cocaine addiction which led him to rehabilitation centers in 1990. He opened up about this experience on Today, sharing that he came of age during the ’60s and ’70s when there was a significantly more relaxed view towards drug use.
In 2018, he openly acknowledged that his daily routine during the ’80s included heavy cocaine use, which was as common as some movie budgets. He often found himself pleading with God to take away this addiction, promising never to return to it after each late-night prayer. However, by 4 in the afternoon, he would rationalize that it wasn’t so bad.
He shared an intense moment, which he referred to as a ‘white light experience,’ where he felt like he was either deceased or about to lose everything valuable to him. This left him needing to sit down with his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, to discuss the situation. After this eye-opening event, he decided it was time to seek help and ended his relationship with cocaine.
In 2018, following an incident in Newport Beach where Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte attempted to break down his hotel room door, he chose to seek treatment for alcohol addiction. According to his representative, Lochte has struggled with this issue for a long time and it has unfortunately developed into a harmful pattern. He has admitted that he requires professional help to overcome this problem and will be receiving immediate assistance.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recognize that overcoming this health challenge is non-negotiable for me. It’s not just about my personal wellbeing, but also about making wise choices for the future, being the best partner and parent I can be, and if I aim to reclaim my position as a top swimmer in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – my fifth games.
It’s worth noting that, like many advise against it, getting sober for someone else isn’t typically recommended. However, the former Parenthood star’s relationship with Melanie Lynskey played a significant role in his decision to abstain from alcohol.
During his interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he shared, “I realized at some point how extraordinary she was and believed she would be perfect for someone truly deserving. However, I didn’t think I fit that category – I felt a tad unstable.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
In the beginning of their relationship, he found it simpler to claim that his actions were motivated by her because, during that period, he didn’t feel particularly valuable himself. His concern for causing pain to her surpassed his own self-inflicted hurt. Therefore, at first, it was more convenient for him to state, “I’m doing this for her.” However, now, he is engaged in these actions for his own sake.
For close to a decade now, the country singer has managed to stay sober, but achieving this was no simple task. His struggles with alcohol and prescription painkillers started shortly after he graduated from high school, persisting even as his career flourished. He admitted to always carrying a black leather briefcase containing bottles of Jagermeister or vodka, keeping it within easy reach at all times. According to him, every hour and a half to two hours, he would take multiple swigs from the bottle, and every three to four hours, he would consume a couple of pills. He shared this in an earlier interview with People.
He acknowledged that it didn’t hinder his achievements in any way. Instead, he was operating at full capacity—composing more songs back then than he does currently. That was the alarming aspect.
In late 2011, he was admitted to the hospital due to pancreatitis, and doctors warned him that if he continued drinking, he might not live to see his next birthday. However, he tried to moderate his consumption on his own, thinking, “Okay, I’ll only allow myself to take two pills today. I’ll only drink this much from my bottle and make a mark on the bottle,” as he remembered. This strategy worked for a few days, but then someone would throw a party.
After realizing he needed assistance, he finally checked into rehab on December 18, 2011. “I reached a point where I understood it was something beyond my control,” Gilbert explained. “It infuriated me immensely and brought great shame. I’m quite determined, but that was the one aspect of my life that I couldn’t manage.
