In simpler terms, Rob Liefeld, a key creator of Deadpool, is known for speaking his mind directly. Recently, he expressed his displeasure about the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie from Marvel Studios not featuring Cable, one of Liefeld’s famous Marvel Comics characters. On Twitter, fans have been discussing rumors that James Gunn’s DC Studios might want Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in the MCU, for the role of a major DC villain called Darkseid. Artist Bosslogic has shared some artwork depicting Brolin as Darkseid, and when one fan got excited about this possibility of Brolin joining the DC Universe, Liefeld added fuel to the fire by suggesting that it might not be a good idea for the DCU to take Brolin away from the MCU.
“Shouldn’t have blocked him from Deadpool & Wolverine. All time boner move.”

The absence of Cable in Deadpool & Wolverine left many fans disappointed, as his relationship with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool was a key aspect of the odd-couple dynamic in Deadpool 2. Moreover, given that Cable can traverse time, he seems perfectly suited for a multiverse expedition. Considering Josh Brolin’s history of playing significant roles across both Disney-Fox and Marvel Studios franchises, it was surprising not to see him make even a brief appearance.
Despite not receiving an invitation to star in Deadpool and Wolverine, Brolin expressed some feelings of being overlooked before the movie’s premiere. In a humorous (or perhaps joking) manner, he suggested to Collider that it might be due to Reynolds not liking him, but he wasn’t convinced that was the reason, adding, “I’m not sure. Perhaps it’s something else.
In a separate conversation with Bingeworthy TV, Brolin admitted that he really wanted to be part of Deadpool & Wolverine’s film. However, many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe speculate that Brolin’s character, Cable, may reappear in major projects such as Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, potentially creating another significant connection between the old Fox X-Men universe and Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. It seems that Brolin’s chances of appearing in more Marvel movies are still very much alive.
It’s clear why Cable wasn’t featured in “Deadpool & Wolverine” – the film’s title itself explains this. Deadpool and Wolverine are strong enough characters to headline their own films, so combining them was like a massive multi-franchise crossover event. Although Cable is a significant figure in Marvel Comics since the late 1980s, mainstream audiences only got a glimpse of his simplified version in “Deadpool 2” (the movie mostly cut his complex X-Men connections). MCU fans have begun to learn more about the real Cable and his background through recurring appearances in the “X-Men ’97” animated series. As such, Cable still has a way to go before becoming a major draw. With Brolin reprising both Cable and Thanos for “Avengers: Secret Wars,” this big climactic Marvel movie multiverse confrontation would provide enough focus on him until the MCU introduces a more comic-accurate storyline for Cable.
