Final Fantasy 7 Remake Producer Would “Love” a Movie or Show Based on the Game

At present, there’s a resurgence of video game adaptations into TV shows and movies. From small indie games to big AAA series, every gaming property is under consideration. In the past, Final Fantasy was given the Hollywood treatment as early as 2001 with “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within,” but it’s best not to dwell on that film. However, it appears that some at Square Enix are keen on a new Final Fantasy movie. In a recent interview with Danny Pena, producer Yoshinori Kitase of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” expressed his excitement about the possibility of such a project.

Kitase mentioned that while no official plans have been made, he would be thrilled if Hollywood directors and actors were involved in bringing the Final Fantasy VII universe to life through a film or visually engaging project. Many creators are reportedly fond of the property, so this is just his personal hope.

At present, fans should understand that Kitase’s statement is simply his personal hope and does not guarantee a forthcoming Final Fantasy VII movie or TV series. Although an adaptation of this beloved game may seem inevitable, no official announcements have been made yet. However, with the upcoming release of the final trilogy entry, there’s a chance that things might change in the future.

In 1997, the groundbreaking game “Final Fantasy VII” was launched on the first PlayStation console. Although the series had been around for almost a decade prior, it was this particular title that catapulted Final Fantasy into mainstream popularity. Since then, numerous successful Final Fantasy games have been released, but few have left as lasting an impression as “Final Fantasy VII”. Developed by Square Enix, the role-playing game has spawned spin-offs, merchandise, and a 2005 animated movie. It’s plausible that future Final Fantasy movies could follow the animation style of “Advent Children”, or perhaps take a live-action approach.

Although a film based on “Final Fantasy VII” may not be imminent, it aligns with Square Enix’s aim to broaden the game’s fanbase. The company has expressed a wish for more individuals to experience the remake trilogy, and plans to release it on additional platforms in 2025. Historically, movie adaptations of video games have boosted sales, even for games that have been available for quite some time. While it might be several years after the completion of the remake trilogy, a compelling “Final Fantasy VII” movie or series could prove to be a worthwhile endeavor for Square Enix!
