For Travis Kelce, the idea of a fall wedding is a little gauche.
It’s that time of year when everyone’s attention turns to football, and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who happens to be dating Taylor Swift, is well aware that many folks will be more engrossed in the game than they would be in wedding festivities.
On the January 8th episode of his New Heights podcast, Travis stated that he doesn’t know anyone who has gotten married during the fall season, contrary to what a caller mentioned about his disagreement with his girlfriend over her wish to get married on a day when he might be attending a football game. Instead, his friends usually tie the knot in the summer months.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of attending countless nuptials, yet none have taken place in autumn. Frankly, I find myself questioning the appeal of an autumnal wedding.
Besides, according Travis, all his pals have season tickets to football games.
He playfully told his older brother and fellow host Jason Kelce, “Please don’t arrange things in a way that forces my friends to stay away.” Or, alternatively, “He said to his older brother and co-host Jason Kelce with a jest, ‘Don’t plan it so my friends will have to decide whether they need to sell their tickets that week.’
For Jason, who tied the knot with Kylie Kelce back in April 2018, there are other aspects of life that hold greater importance than football.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center remarked, “Weddings are among those things, you see. Maintaining peace with your spouse is also very important.
Jason recommended, “Go ahead with the autumn wedding and steer clear of this pointless argument that carries no significance at all.” He added, “There are numerous days in the fall when there isn’t any football to watch.
As the 37-year-old put it, “You can have a wedding on a Friday.”
Nevertheless, Travis veers off topic. Despite not favoring an autumn wedding, the actor known as “Grotesquerie” will adhere to tradition and choose a specific weekday for the ceremony.
“It’s a weekend thing,” Travis reasoned. “It’s a whole weekend thing.”

Despite the strong bond Travis Kelce shares with Kansas City, Missouri, his roots trace back to Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he spent his childhood years.
Instead of stating his alma mater, University of Cincinnati, the man proudly proclaims his hometown during game broadcasts whenever player introductions are made.
Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.
In 2019, Travis expressed that while he deeply values his time at the University of Cincinnati, it wasn’t always a smooth journey for him. He admitted that there were challenging times when life became tough. Unfortunately, he lost his scholarship and made some poor decisions. He went on to say that many people in the room might know someone from Cleveland Heights High School who has also made questionable choices, and he confessed that he was indeed that person among his friends.
Beyond just being significant to him, he added, this place up here meant something to everyone. Its rich diversity stirred a deep emotion within him. Whatever action I take is for this city. It may sound trite, but let me assure you, everything I do out there – when you witness me celebrating in the end zone, that’s my tribute to Cleveland Heights, for you, in that very moment.
2. About that revoked scholarship…
Following their unbeaten 2009 season, which culminated in a Big East championship, Travis was found to have used marijuana prior to the 2010 Sugar Bowl. This was due to his excessive celebration on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans.
Beyond just not playing in the bowl game, he was suspended by the NCAA for the entire 2010 season, causing him to lose his scholarship. With nowhere else to go, he moved into his brother’s room (specifically Jason’s room within a house shared with teammates) and started working as a telemarketer, asking people who answered their phones about their opinions on the Affordable Care Act.
They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.
3. Travis had experience with hockey, baseball, and basketball before focusing on football, where he played quarterback in high school. Interestingly, he was a two-star recruit for the quarterback position at Cincinnati, but later changed to play as a tight end due to certain conditions following his suspension and reinstatement to the team.
In his conversation with Arrowhead Pride after being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013, Travis stated that during that time, we had an exceptional quarterback named Zach Collaros, but our team required assistance in both the running game and the passing game. To address this, I consulted with Coach Butch Jones, who was my coach at the moment. He suggested we needed a tight end, and since my abilities, athleticism, and direction fit perfectly for that role, it turned out to be an ideal match for me.
In simpler terms, he told GQ in 2017 that, referring to a not-so-great incident, “People have always seen me as more of a utility player rather than a star quarterback.
4. The house located at 127 W. Nixon St., which was shared by Travis, Jason, and some other University of Cincinnati students (Bearcats), was frequently the site of boisterous parties involving a great deal of beer consumption.
Tom DeTemple shared with the New York Times before the 2024 Super Bowl that the brothers were fond of spending hours on their Nintendo 64, simultaneously pounding on the controls and gulping down beers. He added that during these gaming sessions, they would invent impromptu drinking games and showed remarkable skill at them.
5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.
He shared with reporters before the 2023 Super Bowl that everything was centered on Cincinnati for him. After all, he’s deeply proud of his roots at the University of Cincinnati. He finally received his degree, and whenever possible, he lends a hand to the university. Whenever he can, he returns to the university. The players he played with and the people he met there are deeply missed, as they have been by his side through life’s highs and lows.
When he found himself facing criticism from the NCAA, he responded, “Those who were part of the team and staff during my time at the university – they had faith in me to help us improve and move forward personally. This support meant a lot to me at that point in time.
6. Travis, who had enlisted in the draft shortly following college graduation nearly a decade ago, finally received his degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2022. However, he didn’t collect it until April 2024 at an unexpected commencement ceremony. This special event coincided with them taping a live episode of New Heights at Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena alongside Jason.
As the graduate neared the dean for his well-deserved handshake upon graduation, he was already clutching a cold beer, and immediately finished it off afterward.
And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.
7. Due to some problems off the field, I found myself being selected fifth among tight ends in the 2013 NFL Draft, with the Chiefs picking me up in the third round. Later on, coach Andy Reid, who had worked with my elder brother Jason in Philadelphia, asked me to endorse Travis for him.
Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.
8. For quite some time now, Travis used to listen to “Burn On” by Randy Newman as his pre-game music. However, the genre he listens to may have evolved since then.
Speaking on the NBC Sports podcast “PFT Live” in 2017, he shared that being from the eastern side of Cleveland, this particular song reminds him of his family and makes him reflect on where he is in life, appreciating it deeply.
Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.
9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.
As a die-hard fan, let me share that I recently tagged along with the dynamic duo – my boys, Jason and Kelce. Funny thing about Kelce, though – he goes by “Kel-see” but it’s got this cool rhythm that rhymes with “else,” making his name even more intriguing!
On “Inside the NFL” in January, Chris Jones blurted out a surprising remark, “Crazy, isn’t it?” This statement was later verified by Travis’ teammates when they questioned their father, Ed Kelce, about it on their “New Heights” podcast.
Jason wondered aloud, “What made you suddenly decide to change your name, and now we go by ‘Kel-see’? I can’t help but wonder why it was only in the last 24 years, or 27 for me, and 25 for Trav, that we identified as ‘Kel-see’?
Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”
10. As a lifestylist, I’d like to share a heartfelt story behind the jersey number 87 that Travis has proudly donned throughout his NFL journey. This number isn’t just any ordinary choice; it serves as a touching tribute to my brother Jason, who was born in the same year – 1987.
Travis Kelce shared with NFL Films before the 2023 Super Bowl, where his Chiefs faced off against Jason’s Eagles, that if there is a Kelce legacy in the NFL, it can be traced back to 1987, as this towering figure was born in that year.
11. For many years, Travis’ foundation and Running has supported Operation Breakthrough, a learning center based in Kansas City, where the athlete has been involved since his first visit in 2015 to read “The Cat in the Hat” to the children.
11. Travis’ foundation, together with Running, has consistently funded Operation Breakthrough, a nonprofit learning center situated in Kansas City, where the athlete has been collaborating since 2015 – starting with reading “The Cat in the Hat” to the children there.
Yes, reader, he wore the hat.
Afterward, Travis made investments in the Smart Lab of the program and purchased the neighboring muffler shop to facilitate expansion. This led to the establishment of their Ignition Lab, where young scholars transformed old cars destined for the scrap yard into functioning electric vehicles instead.
12. Travis and Jason nickname their listeners as “92% club” as a nod to a time when Jason mentioned that a play called a quarterback sneak was successful about 92% of the time, only requiring one yard to score a touchdown.
Apparently, fans affectionately referred to themselves as the “92 percenters” on the podcast’s website, likening it to a special code or term they shared among themselves.
Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?
13. Travis is accompanied by three personal trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – who are said to always be with him, as per The Athletic. This is because they help Travis maintain his physical fitness for football throughout the entire year, no matter where he goes.
As a devoted follower and physical therapist myself, I, Alex, remembered Travis expressing his desire for an evening jog, following a day packed with fashion shows during Paris Fashion Week. This was due to his missing his workout routine on that specific day.
At midnight, the coach informed the New York Times in April that we’re running short, intense distances across the bridges over the river. He always manages to squeeze in whatever tasks he needs to accomplish, regardless of his location.
14. The longtime friend of Travis, Kumar Ferguson, who is his personal chef, hails from their shared hometown of Cleveland Heights, where they’ve known each other since the fourth grade.
In 2016, he was a part-time cook but also driving trucks, until Travis phoned him with a job offer.
In 2023, Kumar expressed to Vanity Fair, “He said something like, ‘Hey buddy, I’m committed to improving my diet significantly,'” to which Kumar responded, “Wow, let’s make it happen. A few days after that, I found myself in Kansas City.
As your go-to lifestyle guide, I take pride in ensuring all aspects of wellness are covered – from filling Travis’ fridge with nutritious options to personally delivering balanced meals at the Chiefs’ training facility.
15. Travis has been scrutinizing his facial hair more than usual lately, so he shared on New Heights that he trimmed his off-season beard last year and maintained the mustache as a tribute to the walrus look preferred by Andy Reid, choosing to follow the tradition again in 2024.
16. In April 2024, Travis secured a two-year contract worth $34.25 million, making him the highest-earning tight end in the NFL for the first time throughout his professional career.
Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.
In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2023, Travis joked, “My supervisors and representatives often remind me that I’m underpaid. Whenever I bring up the topic of earning more, they simply suggest, ‘Perhaps you should approach the Chiefs about it.’
Later on, as multiple avenues for earning money became available, his focus shifted towards the atmosphere rather than the salary.
He said, “The idea of a free market sounds appealing, but it only seems so until you find yourself not coming out on top. I enjoy success, I appreciate my current position.
Admittedly, witnessing other players’ large earnings can give you a slight pang. It makes you wonder if you’re being treated unfairly. I’m not sure I’d speed up my pace if it would bring me the supposed value. However, I know I always look forward to going to that building each day.
17. Travis developed an interest in fashion from a young age while residing in Cleveland Heights, as his high school was essentially a daily fashion show, according to what he shared with Vanity Fair in 2023.
So, he transformed the room into a walk-in wardrobe, ideal for storing his designer clothes and over 300 pairs of sneakers – including a set of Nike Air Mags in size 13 that he bought using a significant chunk of his first year’s earnings, even though they were slightly too small.
Previously, during the early stages of his career, before there were so many shoe-related apps available, he used to buy whichever size of the desired shoe was available. (He shared this with the Wall Street Journal.)
He has a strong affinity for Nike shoes, but that’s not only due to the brand sponsoring him. Chuck Taylors also hold a special place in his heart because they remind him of the fictional baseball star Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from The Sandlot.
18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.
Travis mentioned in a June statement that it’s common knowledge he enjoys a few beers occasionally. So, being the owner of Garage Beer and deeply invested in crafting top-notch light brews is thrilling for him! Nothing compares to the bonding power of an icy cold beer, and for Travis and Jason, that’s what beer represents – friends, family, and good times.
19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.
In the past, the popular series was known as “Gossip Girl”. As he explained on “New Heights”, it was incredible. Essentially, it was like a TV show set in a New York high school filled with lots of drama, and most characters were constantly gossiping and talking negatively about each other.
His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.
20. Recently, Travis, who is in his 12th season in the NFL and aged 35, has become more candid about the physical strain that playing football can impose on a player’s body.
However, since the very beginning, he’s been bravely enduring numerous setbacks, starting with a microfracture in his knee during his rookie year that necessitated the first of the ten operations he has undergone throughout his career.
21. Travis openly discussed an incident on the “New Heights” podcast, where he tried unsuccessfully to gift Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet and his phone number during her tour stop in Kansas City.
After learning through word-of-mouth from people within her circle who knew both her and Travis’s desire to meet, she reached out to him directly.
He shared with WSJ. Magazine that she clearly explained the situation to him and fortunately managed to get her attention.
One thing I can’t resist, a sweet indulgence that’s been a constant favorite, is savoring classic French toast, adorned with a dollop of fluffy whipped cream and drizzled with luscious syrups.
But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.
23. Among Travis’ collection of ringtones, there’s at least one that features Chris Farley exclaiming “Goodness gracious me!” from the movie ‘Tommy Boy’.
He shared with WSJ. The Magazine that he had introduced his love for the comedy of Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell to his girlfriend, telling her, “This is the world I’m into, and it’s time she gets acquainted with it.
24. Following their AFC Championship victory over the Bengals in 2019, Travis, with his shout of “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!”, inspired the Chiefs to play the Beastie Boys song bearing the same title after each touchdown scored at Arrowhead Stadium during home games.
2020 saw Chiefs general manager Brett Veach describe Travis Kelce as akin to an “energy amplifier,” which is difficult to measure precisely how significant that quality is. He exudes personality, passion, and charm that draws others in. Within our team, everyone considers themselves friends with Travis Kelce. This star player serves as an energy booster, enhancing the mood, focus, and attention of his peers, while maintaining a fun-loving demeanor at all times.
As an over-the-moon fan, I’ll admit that the lively host who introduced this gem into our world wasn’t familiar with all the lyrics of the 1986 hit until he was challenged to perform it alongside Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in February 2023.
25. When asked about his favorite tunes by Taylor in May 2024, Travis named “Blank Space,” “The Alchemy,” and “So High School” as his top picks.
Inquired about it back in September, but when asked again, he replied that he loves them all equally – every single one of them.
26. Early on, comparisons were drawn between Travis and the esteemed tight end Tony Gonzalez, who hung up his cleats in 2013 following a 17-year career in the league.
In 2015, as discussions intensified about whether he could indeed exceed Tony’s accomplishments and the potential disappointment if he fell short, Travis chose to disregard the buzz.
He shared with Complex that no one sets higher standards for him than he does himself. His goal is to achieve the most impressive statistical season any tight end has ever seen.
On September 29th, Travis took the lead as the Chiefs’ record holder for receptions with his 917th catch, outpacing Tony’s previous mark.
Travis remarked on New Heights: “It’s amazing how things often return to where they started, isn’t it? Standing at the top of the leaderboard with the Kansas City Chiefs, an organization dating back to the ’60s – one of the original teams that managed to endure and thrive. Their long history plays a big part in this, as does Tony Gonzalez, who has been a mentor for me. I genuinely adore that man.
27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.
“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September. “He can’t cook.”
Maybe the prospect of welcoming a special guest while she’s in the city has given you an added push to tidy up your place.
“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
