The game, titled Pokemon Legends: Z-A, is expected to reintroduce Mega Evolutions as it takes us back to the region of Kalos. This upcoming title appears to be centered around Lumiose City, where it seems the events will unfold and establish Kalos’s primary city as a significant hub.
As of now, the Kalos National Pokédex holds the most Pokémons playable without additional content – a total of 457 different species. At present, only 46 Pokémons can undergo Mega Evolution, with Charizard and Mewtwo having two forms each. Who among these Pokémons might be the next to receive Mega Evolution?
For what I want to see, I’m setting the following rules to keep things interesting:
I’m focusing on Pokemon that are included in the Kalos Pokedex. Even though it has a large variety, it doesn’t include any from the games Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield, or Scarlet & Violet.
1. “You won’t find any Pokémon categorized as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type on this list. I wish that more common Pokémon had this special ability to compete with Legendary ones. Moreover, there are already five Mega Evolutions featuring the Dragon type; adding more seems unnecessary.”
2. “This list won’t contain any Pokémon belonging to the categories of Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I hope that common Pokémon could acquire this special ability so they can hold their own against Legendaries. Furthermore, we currently have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; introducing more seems redundant.”
3. “The list will be devoid of any Pokémon labeled as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’m hoping that regular Pokémon could develop this special ability to stand up against their Legendary counterparts. Additionally, there are already five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; adding more seems pointless.”
4. “On this list, you won’t find any Pokémon tagged as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I believe that common Pokémon should possess this special ability to challenge Legendaries. Furthermore, we already have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; introducing more seems unnecessary.”
5. “In this list, there won’t be any Pokémon categorized as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’d like it if regular Pokémon could develop this special ability to compete against the Legendaries. Moreover, we already have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; adding more seems redundant.”
6. “This list won’t include any Pokémon that are Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’m advocating for common Pokémon to acquire this special ability so they can battle against their Legendary counterparts. Besides, we currently have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; creating more seems superfluous.”
7. “The list will exclude any Pokémon labeled as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’d prefer if regular Pokémon could develop this special ability to compete against the Legendaries. Furthermore, we already have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; introducing more seems unnecessary.”
8. “In this list, you won’t see any Pokémon categorized as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I wish that common Pokémon could obtain this special ability to challenge the Legendaries. Moreover, we already have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; adding more seems redundant.”
9. “This list will not contain any Pokémon classified as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’d like it if regular Pokémon could develop this special ability to compete against their Legendary counterparts. Besides, we currently have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; creating more seems unnecessary.”
10. “The list will be devoid of any Pokémon tagged as Legendary, Mythical, or Dragon-type. I’m advocating for common Pokémon to acquire this special ability so they can face off against the Legendaries. Furthermore, we already have five Mega Evolutions with a Dragon type; introducing more seems redundant.”
In the end, I won’t be adding any starter Pokémon. These are just common Pokémon found in the Kalos region routes. Let’s begin!
Or, if you prefer a more conversational tone:
Alrighty then, no starters here! Just regular Pokémon from any route in Kalos. Let’s dive right in!
Talonflame
In simpler terms, Talonflame is the final form of Fletchling and was initially introduced in Generation VI. Since its debut, it has been a playable character in every primary Pokémon game. Its appearance takes inspiration from the Peregrine Falcon, the world’s fastest bird. This influence is evident in Talonflame having the highest Speed stat among all Fire-type Pokémon.
Instead of Talonflame being primarily depicted as a red peregrine falcon, let’s envision it transformed into a Phoenix-like creature instead. Imagine Moltres, but with a touch more feathery details.
Azumarill
In the spotlight particularly during Tera Raids, Azumarill makes an excellent candidate for a Mega Evolution tank. Originating from Marill in Generation II, this character has been around for quite some time. Lately, Azumarill has garnered popularity in Tera Raid Challenges within Pokémon Scarlet & Violet thanks to its impressive defensive stats and Water/Fairy type. Picture a Mega Evolved Azumarill with Belly Drum – it’s going to be incredibly powerful!
Mightyena
This one seems particularly fitting, largely due to Houndoom’s Mega Evolution. Entering the scene in Generation III, Mightyena is a rather ordinary Dark-type Pokemon that warrants more attention. It boasts a fairly balanced stat distribution, which makes it a dependable pick for teams. On average, it shares the same total base stats as Azumarill. The only caveat being the presence of Mega Absol. However, Mightyena outperforms in terms of defensive stats and doesn’t solely rely on swift KOs to be effective.
Golurk
This choice is purely subjective as Golurk brings to mind Alphonse Elric from “Fullmetal Alchemist”. Introduced in Generation V, it seems that Golurk might have been influenced by golem folklore. A unique Pokemon type, Golurk is both Ground and Ghost, evolving from Golett. The emblem on its chest is frequently mentioned in all Pokédex entries, suggesting that if this seal is taken away, Golurk would lose command over its power. Yet, it’s intended to serve as a protector or guardian.
According to its Pokédex descriptions and anime portrayals, it is established that Golurk can travel at speeds equivalent to a machine (Mach speed). Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume that Mega Golurk also has the ability to fly.
Aegislash
In terms of game mechanics, having Mega Aegislash in competitive battles could significantly alter strategies due to its unique ability to morph during combat. Morphing into a different form alters Aegislash’s attributes. The Blade Forme boasts high attack statistics and becomes active when Aegislash unleashes a damaging move, while the Shield Forme focuses on defense and is activated either upon using King’s Shield or being switched out of battle.
Rotom
It’s quite an exciting thought, isn’t it? Imagine if each form of Rotom could undergo Mega Evolution? And let me tell you, Rotom is simply endearing!
At the moment, there are just two Pokémon that can Mega Evolve into Electric-types – Ampharos and Manectric. Regardless of its form, Rotom will always maintain its Electric-type trait. Interestingly, Rotom has six different forms, each incorporating Electric with Ghost, Fire, Water, Ice, Flying, and Grass types. In essence, Rotom could be a more adaptable version of Charizard. Now, imagine using an extravagant lawnmower in a battle – wouldn’t that be amusing?
Slowking
Akin to Mightyena, it seems perfectly suited. One might wonder why Slowbro, rather than Slowking, possesses a Mega Evolution.
The underlying concept here revolves around the mechanics of evolving a Slowking. To obtain a Slowking, you must trade a Slowpoke that carries a King’s Rock. This was more challenging when the Nintendo 3DS was first released, as trading with friends worldwide was less straightforward than it is now. However, with the advent of Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home, transferring and trading Pokemon has become much more accessible across different systems and accounts. Thus, it’s high time for Slowking’s evolutionary counterpart, Slowbro, to receive its Mega Evolution form.
Exploud
It seems that many trainers are yet to fully appreciate Normal-type Pokemon, particularly since the introduction of the Normal Tera Type in Scarlet & Violet. However, it’s quite uncommon for trainers to include a solely Normal-type Pokemon in their primary battle teams.
Exploud represents the ultimate stage in Whismur’s evolutionary line. Unlike most Normal-type Pokémon, Exploud boasts a strong Special Attack stat. If you’re similar to me, then you probably taught Surf to a Linoone. You can now teach Surf to an Exploud and expect superior results since this Pokemon is designed to excel in Special Attacks.
Florges
Among the original Fairy-type characters in the Pokemon series, Florges is one of them. Originating from Kalos region, this Pokemon has five distinct appearances – Red, Blue, Yellow, Orange, and White. Interestingly, these different forms don’t affect the Pokemon’s abilities; they are merely cosmetic modifications for visual appeal.
Florges has been crafted to excel as a unique damage tank, with its most impressive attributes being Special Attack and Special Defense. Moreover, consider the captivating aesthetics of its Mega Evolution form. It’s not just about beauty in Pokémon; it can also be incredibly powerful.
Nidoking & Nidoqueen
Back in the day, when I was just a trainer with 150 Pokémon at my disposal, Nidoking and Nidoqueen were the ones who truly reigned supreme. You see, they’re from the same family tree as Gardevoir and Gallade, the only two Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. And you know what? I think it’s high time Slowking joined their ranks too!
I’d like the designs to feature coordinating headpieces, ideally with a similar theme such as rock capes, if possible.
