The heartwarming dynamic between Rogue and Magneto, which added excitement to the ’90s animated series ‘X-Men’, is set to be delved into in an innovative way. While longtime X-Men enthusiasts recall their romantic escapades in the Savage Land, for Disney+ viewers, it was uncharted territory. The upcoming five-issue limited X-Men series focuses on Rogue, revisiting that era with a fresh adventure that will provide new insights into her relationship with Magneto. Fans of ‘X-Men ’97’ and all X-Men admirers will be eager to discover what transpired when Rogue lost her powers and became stranded in the Savage Land.
The first issue of “Rogue: The Savage Land” by Tim Seeley, Zulema Lavina, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC’s Ariana Maher is exclusively previewed in ComicBook, featuring Rogue’s journey after passing through the Siege Perilous, a magical gateway to various universes that significantly alters its traveler. In this instance, Rogue experiences the loss of the abilities she had taken from Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers). Following an interlude in Australia where she was pursued by a mind-controlled Ms. Marvel, Rogue finds herself transported to the Savage Land.
Currently, Rogue is dressed in a Tarzan-esque ensemble created from her available clothes. She’s fashioned a fishing rod by fastening a sharp stone to a stick to spear fish beneath the water. The Savage Land, a primordial territory lost in time, teems with dinosaurs and other gigantic creatures. A scene of “survival of the fittest” unfolds as two titans clash. Rogue outlines five guidelines for surviving in the Savage Land; rule number 5 emphasizes it’s no place for the shy. The sneak peek concludes with a spread showcasing Rogue in an even more revealing outfit than earlier.
Seeley shared with Polygon that in these five projects, he’ll have the chance to showcase his affection for 80s X-Men, Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, Zabu, as well as a favorite theme – dinosaurs. Working alongside Zulema Lavina, we aim to create something new yet faithful, retelling the classic story of young Rogue and her unusual companions, Magneto and Ka-Zar, while maintaining their original impossibly sexy and epic feel.
