Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer Claims Deadpool & Wolverine Character Deliberately Mocks It Ends With Us Star

The secret disagreements concerning Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s popular movie “It Ends With Us” have led to another film being involved: “Deadpool & Wolverine”. During an interview on “The Megyn Kelly Show” (as reported by Deadline), Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, stated that Ryan Reynolds – Lively’s husband – utilized the Marvel blockbuster to mock Baldoni through the character Nicepool. Freedman specifically argued that Nicepool’s hairstyle was a deliberate imitation of Baldoni and hinted that the character’s portrayal served as evidence that Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment were unfounded.

Freedman expressed that if someone’s wife experiences sexual harassment, it’s not appropriate to mock Justin Baldoni. This issue clearly connects to Justin. If you watched the ‘hair bun’ incident, and someone is genuinely sexually harassed, making fun of it isn’t right – it’s a serious matter that requires sensitivity.

In the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” one of the variants of Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds, who also portrays Nicepool) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) come across is a character named Nicepool within the Void. Known for his over-the-top cheerfulness, Nicepool’s words and actions can sometimes be seen as insincere to mask negative behavior. For instance, he makes remarks about Ladypool (Lively), commenting on her post-pregnancy body by saying “you can’t even tell she just had a baby,” and when Deadpool expresses concern over such comments, Nicepool claims “that’s okay, I identify as a feminist,” seemingly disregarding the potential inappropriateness of his remarks.

The accusations made by Freedman are simply the most recent installment in an ongoing exchange between Lively and Baldoni, which began in late 2024 when Lively sued Baldoni over allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation. In response to these claims, Baldoni’s talent agency, WME, decided to terminate their professional relationship with him. Subsequently, Baldoni filed a lawsuit against The New York Times, stating in the legal document that the newspaper had selectively used certain pieces of evidence and manipulated text to misrepresent facts during their coverage of the situation.

The origins of this dispute can be traced back to the release of It Ends With Us in August 2024, where Blakely faced criticism on social media regarding her promotional strategies for the film and rumors of tension between Baldoni and Lively, with some suggesting that Baldoni’s absence from press events was due to this discord. As a result, Baldoni enlisted the help of a crisis public relations team, while Lively submitted a complaint to the California Civil Rights Department in December.

Regarding the accusations against Nicepool on Nicepool, Freedman’s remarks aren’t new. Some people have suggested online that some of Nicepool’s statements may have been subtle jabs at Baldoni. In particular, a deleted scene from the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” has been mentioned, where Nicepool said he would fight alongside others but his role was to one day start a podcast about monetizing the women’s movement. Interestingly, Baldoni co-hosts a podcast called “The Man Enough,” which he hosts with Jamey Heath and explores various aspects of masculinity such as relationships, body image, privilege, fatherhood, sex, mental health, and more. Recently, one of the co-hosts, Liz Plank, left the podcast.

It Ends With Us is now streaming on Netflix. Deadpool & Wolverine is now streaming on Disney+.
