This week marked the end of the first season for the animated series Creature Commandos. The finale of this inaugural project within James Gunn’s DCU delivered a significant emotional impact and set up a key character to play a significant role in future episodes. With Season 2 of the show already confirmed by Max, viewers were eager to learn about the team’s next steps. Surprisingly, it seems that a beloved character from the previous DCEU will be making a comeback in the upcoming episodes.

In the final episode of the season, The Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, eliminates Princess Ilana, a character played by Maria Bakalova. This act not only averts World War III but also brings justice for Nina Mazursky, who was killed by the Princess. For her role in preventing global conflict, The Bride is granted command of Task Force M. With just Weasel and Dr. Phosphorus remaining alive, she needs a new squad. And that’s exactly what she gets: a refreshed G.I. Robot, who it turns out survived, along with some fresh faces. Among the newcomers are resurrected mummy Khalis and vampire Nosferata, characters known for their roles as Creature Commandos in the comics. But the most unexpected member of the team is King Shark.
Fans might remember that King Shark has made an appearance in both the animated series “Harley Quinn,” where he was voiced by Ron Funches, and in James Gunn’s film “The Suicide Squad” with Sylvester Stallone providing his voice. Interestingly, for King Shark’s role in the “Creature Commandos,” DC veteran Diedrich Bader took on the voice acting duties. However, despite the change in voice actors, it appears that the same King Shark from “The Suicide Squad” is being portrayed.
What Does A New Team Mean for Creature Commandos Season 2?
The new team’s unveiling offers some insights into what lies ahead for the series, Creature Commandos. From its debut episode, there was a hint of connection to Gunn’s The Suicide Squad within the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). The appearance of King Shark, despite being voiced by a different actor, further solidifies these connections and implies that we may witness more ties in the future.
Moving forward, the creation of a fresh team indicates that Season 2 may introduce a new quest, and the closing scene hints at a new adversary in the form of Eric Frankenstein, voiced by David Harbour. This scene verifies that Eric survived being shot by The Bride, and his belief in her love, which is essentially delusional, has only intensified. Considering that James Gunn’s DCU’s inaugural chapter is “Gods and Monsters,” it seems fitting for Eric, along with the Creature Commandos, to play significant roles within this narrative.
Creature Commandos is now streaming on Max.
