Game of Thrones legend confirmed to replace late Ray Stevenson in Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2

Lucasfilm has cast Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann as the new portrayer of the fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll in its Star Wars streaming series Ahsoka, taking over the role that was previously held by the late Ray Stevenson.

The character becomes an enemy of Ahsoka Tano, the main character portrayed by Rosario Dawson. To survive Order 66, they choose a dark path, forming alliances with Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

It appears that the creators of Ahsoka had grand ideas for Skoll, as suggested by the finale of season 1. However, these plans may have been disrupted after the unexpected death of Stevenson in May 2023 at the age of 58.

It was speculated if the character would exit the plot, similar to how T’Challa (portrayed by Chadwick Boseman) and Andre Anderson (played by Chance Perdomo) were handled in their respective series – Gen V, but it has been confirmed that this won’t happen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter’s confirmation, McCann has been cast as Baylan Skoll for Ahsoka’s second season, a project that is still under development by returning showrunner Dave Filoni, with no confirmed start date for production at this time.

McCann is widely recognized by global audiences for his menacing portrayal of The Hound in Game of Thrones, yet he also boasts significant roles in movies like Hot Fuzz, Jumanji: The Next Level, Gladiator II, and the more recent Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off titled Knuckles.

By the finale of season 1, Skoll found himself parted from his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), suggesting he was venturing onto a different course. During this transition, he chanced upon structures honoring the divine manifestations of power that sprang up during the Clone Wars’ timeframe.

Long-term fans of Filoni’s Star Wars tales are eagerly anticipating that the intriguing connection will likely be explored further in the upcoming second season, for which a release date has not been announced yet.

In the year 2023, Ahsoka season 1 stood out as a significant success on Disney Plus, racking up 14 million views within just five days after its debut. The show also garnered recognition with nominations at both the Creative Arts Emmys and SAG Awards later on.
