As a passionate gamer myself, I recently learned that Genki, a renowned accessory maker, admitted in an interview with Game*Spark that the accessories they displayed for the Nintendo Switch 2 at CES 2025 were primarily inspired by leaks rather than the actual hardware. To clarify, even the mock-up of the Switch 2, which was used to showcase Genki’s protective case designs, was based on previously leaked information.
The spokesperson added that neither they nor the company have had a chance to view the console themselves, and as of now, they don’t possess any reliable information about the Switch 2.
According to the company, only Nintendo has the knowledge to determine if accessories designed for the Switch will work with the Switch 2. Similarly, Genki admitted they are unsure if the accessory lineup they unveiled will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 upon its release.
Nintendo has issued a statement, confirming that any prototype versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 showcased at CES 2025 were not authorized by them. Additionally, they made it clear that they did not provide Genki with the console for designing their accessories.
From Genki’s product demonstrations, there was a representation of what appears to be the Nintendo Switch 2 model, suggesting that it might be larger than the initial Nintendo Switch. However, it’s important to note that these dimensions have since been called into question as Nintendo has yet to officially disclose the specifics of their upcoming console. Furthermore, Genki’s accessories hinted at a potential change in the attachment method for the Switch 2’s JoyCons, employing a new magnetic system for handheld mode. Additionally, there seems to be a new, larger button beneath the triggers designed for detaching the JoyCons. Yet, these features have not been confirmed by Nintendo itself.
Apart from Genki’s anticipated appearance at CES 2025, there have been numerous rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 surfacing lately, with the latest one offering a sneak peek of what could potentially be the console’s new emblem. Like its predecessor, the proposed Switch 2 logo appears to prominently display the number ‘2’.
More recent leaks suggest that the Switch 2 won’t work with the original model’s charger. A photo of its dock further hints at a system that consumes more power when docked, possibly due to an increased processing capacity. The new charger for the Switch 2 appears to deliver higher voltages.
It’s suggested from a recent patent application that the Switch 2 might adopt a similar image upscaling technology like Nvidia’s DLSS. This technology is based on AI and could potentially enhance low-resolution images into high-definition 4K quality, thanks to an integrated neural network processor within the console itself, ideal for modern TV usage.
It’s anticipated that when it is released, the Nintendo Switch 2 should prove to be a hit. As per predictions made by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, around 4.3 million units of the Switch 2 might be sold in the US market by year-end. Furthermore, there are rumors suggesting that Nintendo will reveal the console at an event scheduled for May, with a possible launch date set for June.
