Today’s Hoda Kotb Reveals Plans for Her First Day Off

Come Monday morning, Hoda Kotb won’t be tuning into Today.

On her last day after 17 years with the show, the cherished co-host playfully hinted about her plans for her initial day off, following her congratulations to Craig Melvin who will be joining Savannah Guthrie as the new co-anchors in her place.

Craig, I’m overjoyed for you,” she expressed during the January 10th show. “You truly deserve it, it’s yours. And on Monday at 7 o’clock, I’ll likely be sound asleep.

The joke prompted laughter not just from her peers but also her replacement, as Hoda genuinely remarked, “Craig, you’re bound to be extraordinary! You and Savannah will make a fantastic team.

Indeed, Hoda acknowledged her gratitude towards her dearest coworkers, jokingly mentioning that expressing this appreciation had been difficult for her up until now due to her being disorganized or emotional much of the time.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself compelled to express my admiration for your exceptional contribution to our shared endeavor. You are the unspoken ingredient that elevates our production, making our show resonate with an undeniable charm. In simpler terms, you’re the “secret sauce” that keeps our show ticking, and without your unique touch, we wouldn’t be humming at all. Your talent is evident in every performance, and it’s a joy to witness you bring your A-game each day.

To her long-time friend Al Roker at NBC, Hoda recalled her battle with breast cancer in 2007 and the significant part he played during that time. “When I was ill,” she shared with Al, “you were the one who entered the room first and said, ‘I’m going to be fine.’

She then turned to Savannah, with whom she’s worked side by side since 2018.

In my own words, I express, “You are truly my rock, my friend.” As a mother to Hope, 7, and Haley, 5, I consider you someone who is always there for everyone. During challenging times with Hope, you were the girl who stood by me, present in every moment. You’ve been an essential part of my life, and I deeply appreciate your unwavering support.

Apart from warm messages of appreciation from her colleagues at Today and a nostalgic trip down memory lane through the years she spent on the show, Hoda was also welcomed by unexpected greetings from several celebrities she has impacted throughout her career—many of whom have become close friends—such as Oprah Winfrey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Simone Biles, and Maria Shriver.

Oprah, the influential media figure, applauded Hoda for making this new move, as she shared that this decision was motivated by a desire to devote more time to her daughters who are growing up quickly.

Oprah expressed, “I understand what it’s like to face such a decision,” she said. “I know how tough it can be to reach the point when you declare, ‘I accomplished this, and now it’s time to embark on the next adventure.’ Let me tell you, in time, you’ll reflect back and wonder, ‘Was that the correct choice? Did I act wisely?’

Trust me when I say, you’ve absolutely nailed it! It hasn’t been easy, but I truly believe that Haley and Hope are going to flourish from this choice. Regardless of what direction you take in your future endeavors or next journey, know that it will be the optimal move for you and your loved ones.

Maria also expressed her eagerness for Hoda’s upcoming venture into the wellness sector, acknowledging Hoda’s courage in pursuing her passion in this area.

Maria expressed, “You encountered a voice that was unfamiliar to you, and gradually gave it room, and it began to awaken sensations within you unlike any before. You found courage to declare, ‘I believe I wish to heed this inner voice of mine towards the unknown. I want to step away from one of the most prestigious jobs in television and take a daring leap.’

She added, “Very few people will do that, and it’s so brave.”
