Although The Grand Tour may not be considered part of the main Dragon Ball storyline, Dragon Ball Daima has been making numerous nods to Dragon Ball GT. Despite the absence of Goku transforming into Super Saiyan 4 and the villain Baby yet appearing in the Demon Realm, the narrative of Daima has evoked memories of the lesser-known shonen series for many fans. Interestingly, the most recent episode of Daima even shares a connection to GT as the miniature Goku continues to honor the anime that introduced Super Saiyan 4.
In a delightful twist, the latest episode of “Dragon Ball Super” – number thirteen – is now streaming on Crunchyroll! After taking a week off for the New Year, the anime returns with an exciting new adventure. Instead of battling Tamagami, Majin Duu, and Majin Kuu, our heroes – Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and their allies – find themselves on one of the most perilous planets in the Demon Realm, colloquially known as the “second” most dangerous. The inhabitants of this planet are enormous beings called Megaths, but their laid-back nature doesn’t guarantee the safety of Goku and his crew. This episode doesn’t alter the fundamental storyline of “Dragon Ball,” but it does offer one of the funniest battles in “Daima” yet, playfully referencing The Grand Tour, whether intentionally or not.

The Grand Tour Connection
Similar to Dragon Ball Daimao and Dragon Ball GT, Goku and his companions ventured into uncharted territories. Although they weren’t delving into the Demon Realm, they were visiting parts of the galaxy that were new to them. In episode six of Grand Tour, Goku, Pan, and Trunks landed on the planet Monmaasu, much like in episode thirteen of Daimao where the Z-Fighters found themselves in a place where everything was significantly larger than what they were accustomed to. Some fans might be slightly disheartened that this latest episode doesn’t bring any changes to the lore based on Daima’s history, but it continues to offer Toriyama’s unique humor and Toei Animation’s stunning artwork.
One question that has puzzled numerous Dragon Ball enthusiasts is whether the Z-Fighters will gain new transformations in this sequel to Dragon Ball Z. Although it was thought that Super Saiyan 4 might not be feasible, Daime’s twelfth episode seems to have swayed opinions on this matter. For years, people assumed Vegeta would never attain Super Saiyan 3, but the Saiyan Prince convincingly demonstrated them wrong during his battle against Tamagami.
What is Daima Planning?
Given that Dragon Ball Daima is among the final works by the late creator Akira Toriyama, fans are curious about how many episodes this series will span. As numerous anime seasons exceed twenty episodes, it’s expected that there may be a few more installments to follow the Z-Fighters in the Demon Realm. With formidable adversaries like Gomah, Degetsu, Dr. Anisu, Majin Duu, and Majin Kuu still at large, it seems there will be significant battles ahead for Dragon Ball Daima’s inaugural season.
