Originally released in arcades in 1998 and later for the Sega Dreamcast in 1999, a remake of this classic Dreamcast game is scheduled for release this year. Although many associate it with the Dreamcast due to its exclusivity on that platform until 2001 (when it was ported to PC) and until 2008 (when it arrived on Wii), it wasn’t until the Dreamcast release that most people could play it, as it was an arcade game initially.
If you recall some of the top-tier Sega Dreamcast games, they might include Soulcalibur, Jet Set Radio, Phantasy Star Online, Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Rez, Ikaruga, Skies Of Arcadia, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, Sonic Adventure, Sega Bass Fishing, and a few others. The House of the Dead 2 is likely one that comes to mind for many, and here’s great news for those who remember it fondly – the original game from 1999 is getting a remake this year in 2025!
Initially created by Sega themselves, The House of the Dead 2 is a horror-themed light-gun shooting game that serves as a follow-up to the 1996 Sega Model 2 title, The House of the Dead. A remake of the original game was released in 2022, and now MegaPixel Studio and Forever Entertainment have returned with this sequel.
The exact launch date for the remake remains undisclosed, however, it’s expected to drop on platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X this coming spring.
In the upcoming version, similar to its predecessor, you’ll find remastered music, but don’t worry, the original soundtrack will still be an option for those who prefer it. It will boast modern graphics, along with a collaborative play mode, various endings, interconnected levels, and gameplay that remains true to the original.
In February 2000, a peaceful town was unexpectedly invaded by menacing beings, according to an official summary of the game for those not already familiar with it. Agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart from AMS were dispatched to examine the situation. Upon their arrival, they noticed eerie similarities with the Curien Mansion incident from 1998. Driven by the need to discover the origin of the infestation, they started fighting through throngs of these creatures.
