However, towards the end of 2023, this trend started to shift, causing the resale price of “Tomodachi Life” to surge rapidly.
According to Price Charting, the resale value of Tomodachi Life skyrocketed by the end of 2024. Specifically, in December, used versions of Tomodachi Life were being sold on eBay for an average price above $150. Complete-in-box (CiB) editions were fetching around $175. Although resale values have dropped slightly since then, as of now, Tomodachi Life is still going for approximately $140.
What’s causing the significant rise in value of the game, Tomodachi Life? It might be due to several reasons. Firstly, Nintendo discontinued the 3DS eShop last year, making it impossible to digitally purchase Tomodachi Life. This means that people who want to own the game now have to find a physical cartridge, which may lead to an increase in demand and consequently, value.
Apart from that, it appears that Tomodachi Life has also been a favorite game among content creators on Nintendo platforms over the past year, resulting in a surge of interest in the game among their viewers. Consequently, many viewers have expressed a desire to buy the game after being exposed to it through these channels.
It appears that the cost of Tomodachi Life may soon decrease slightly in the coming weeks and months, suggesting that the current high price might be due to a temporary market bubble. If you’re looking for it, I would advise waiting before making a purchase. However, even if its resale value decreases, Tomodachi Life is likely to continue being one of the more expensive Nintendo 3DS games, unless a new version or remake is introduced on contemporary Nintendo hardware.
