The project currently referred to as ‘Gummy Bears‘ is an intriguing code name for a clandestine Sony initiative. Originally developed at Destiny by Marathon creator Bungie, during its latest round of redundancies, Sony extracted a compact team to work on the project, which is rumored to be inspired by Smash Bros., and brought it into their own operations for secrecy.
According to recent reports from The Game Post and partially confirmed by Forbes, it seems that Gummy Bears will implement a damage system based on percentages. This means that the degree of player knockback is determined by the current percentage, with the possibility of players falling completely off the game’s map if their percentage reaches a certain level.
Although it shares some similarities with other genres, the core essence of this game is still a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). It has characters categorized into Support, Attack, and Defense roles. Additionally, there are towers that players can move and upgrade during the gameplay. Unlike its predecessors such as Halo or Destiny, Gummy Bears will boast a “lo-fi” visual style, which is more attractive to younger audiences.
The final piece of information might bring comfort or cause worry, depending on your perspective. Inside the company, Gummy Bears is seen as one of the most promising projects in development right now, with developers consistently praising its progress. However, remember that there was also internal excitement surrounding Concord before it launched, and we all know what happened next. Likewise, Sony developers have been hyping up Fairgame$, a live service game that seems to be missing in action (and possibly dead on arrival), so perhaps take that last tidbit with a large pinch of salt.
