In 2025, Wolverine is reaching a significant milestone with issue #400 of his comic book series. This special edition, set to hit stands in April, is actually issue #8 from the ongoing series by Saladin Ahmed (known for Daredevil) and Martín Cóccolo (famous for The Immortal Thor). An additional story will be included in this jumbo-sized issue, contributed by guest writer-artist Daniel Warren Johnson (well-known for Transformers). In this epic, Wolverine, the metal-clawed mutant, grapples with a mysterious summons known as the Adamantine.
Marvel’s previews hint that the March edition of Wolverine #7 (equivalent to issue #399) features a significant character appearance and an unexpected twist accompanied by a surprising return, which readers won’t believe unless they read it themselves. In Wolverine #400, set for release on April 16th, the landmark issue guarantees to disrupt the current situation with multiple crucial appearances and disclosures that will shape Logan’s future journeys.
Ahmed commented, “Our special anniversary edition is the perfect opportunity to get really creative with surprises and unveilings, and that’s exactly what we’re doing here.” In this expanded issue, an ancient adversary pushes Logan’s new apprentice, the Wendigo, to the limit, Logan encounters a mysterious being called the Adamantine for the first time, and a shocking family secret sets the stage for the tumultuous next phase of Logan’s life.
Who could that familial connection possibly be regarding the wild mutant known as Wild Child, whom Logan referred to as “uncontrollable” during their time at Canada’s Department H (as seen in Alpha Flight), when December’s Timeslide #1 offered a glimpse into the Marvel Universe’s future?
In essence, this creature shares abilities reminiscent of Wolverine’s, such as retractable claws, heightened senses, and an extraordinary healing capacity. Notably, Logan, who is also known as Wolverine, has fathered numerous offspring throughout the ages, among them his son Akihiro (also known as Daken) and daughter Laura Kinney (also known as X-23 or Wolverine).
In the cover of issue #400, we see a classic confrontation between Wolverine and his age-old adversaries, Omega Red and Sabretooth (who was slain by a Muramasa blade in last year’s finale of volume 7 of Wolverine #50). Also present are Cyber, Lady Deathstrike, Constrictor, all infected by The Adamantine – an ancient, powerful force that aims to eradicate the artificial adamantium from Earth.
Ahmed and Cóccolo’s continuous run on Wolverine comics has also introduced a new Wendigo named Leonard, a troubled teenager whom Logan helped in the Canadian wilderness. At the same time, The Adamantine has been granting Wolverine’s adamantium-infused foes with the divine Metal of the Gods – a metal similar to the artificial alloy that covers Wolverine’s claws and skeleton, but even more divine in nature.
