Dragon Ball Is Finally Making the Kamehameha Powerful Again

In the latest installment of the Dragon Ball series titled “Dragon Ball Daima,” characters like Goku are embarking on an entirely fresh journey through the Demon Realm, marking a significant shift within the franchise. This new anime has been diligently working to restore the original power and impact of the iconic Kamehameha Wave as seen in the classic series. As a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, our favorite characters have been transformed back into children following a new wish granted by the Dragon Balls, which feels like a revisit to their roots.

In their diminished forms, Dragon Ball Daimao necessitates that Goku and Vegeta lean on their abilities to compensate for reduced combat prowess. As a result, the anime showcases them pushing past previous power limits to face new challenges in the Demon Realm. This has highlighted the significance of their capabilities post-Majin Buu saga, and the Kamehameha Wave has once again become a significant tool. Essentially, it’s regained its unique status.

Goku’s Going Back to Basics in Dragon Ball Daima

In a recent chat, I noticed Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku revealing an interesting twist: turning Goku and his comrades into kids once more. This move, he explained, caters to both returning fans of the vintage Dragon Ball anime while providing fresh content for devoted followers. The creative team found this transformation a fun way to launch the new anime series, and it’s been evident since the first season aired during the Fall 2024 anime schedule last year. As the anime unfolds with new episodes this month and beyond, we can see that this approach is indeed in action, offering an exciting blend of nostalgia and novelty.

So far, the storyline in “Dragon Ball Daimao” has kept dedicated fans hooked and made for enjoyable viewing overall. Characters like Goku and Vegeta have faced a challenge adapting to combat within their diminished bodies, leading to certain limitations in their abilities. Since this series occurs after the Majin Buu arc but before the Battle of Gods arc from “Dragon Ball Super”, Goku and Vegeta lack several divine transformations they acquire later on in the series. In fact, Goku had to revert back to using his Power Pole during the Demon Realm arc to compensate for this deficiency.

The transformation into Super Saiyan now holds greater significance than ever before, and Vegeta even revealed a previously unseen Super Saiyan form to counteract all the changes. However, what’s more exciting is that it’s made combat itself more thrilling. Over the years, battles within the franchise have grown to epic dimensions, and Dragon Ball Daima has reverted back to the original Dragon Ball feel where viewers can effortlessly follow each punch and kick while also keeping an eye on the surrounding action. Consequently, even the slightest use of Ki appears more majestic. Fortunately, this new style has also upgraded the Kamehameha Wave in terms of both visuals and power.

Goku’s Kamehameha Wave Feels Big Again

Since Goku has limited abilities, his repertoire of techniques is also somewhat restricted. Each time he unleashes the Kamehameha Wave in “Dragon Ball Daima,” it seems incredibly powerful because it’s essentially the strongest move at his disposal. Unlike other series where we see characters enhancing their attacks with additional abilities, Goku won’t be doing that. Instead, due to the constraints on his body, it takes more energy to charge this move. Because of the effort put into building up its power, each use is even more impressive, like how Goku used it to repel a giant dog in the last episode, and the familiar sounds add to its coolness.

In many aspects, “Dragon Ball Daimao” has gone back to its roots and enhanced those fundamentals to offer a revitalized experience. The action now feels more invigorated as it was starting to become less clear in previous series installments. However, this new interpretation of Goku brings a sense of familiarity along with something fresh and exciting, which also applies to everything else related to Goku’s abilities.
