Disney Star Mandy Moore Lashes Out at Fans Critical of GoFundMe for Inlaws’ Fire Relief Campaign

Mandy Moore, famous for her roles in “This Is Us” and Disney’s “Tangled,” has drawn criticism after posting a GoFundMe page for her in-laws who lost their home in the Eaton Fire, one of the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles. When faced with opposition, she responded angrily, telling critics to “go off.

The discussed fundraising effort aimed for a total of sixty thousand dollars. Since Moore is said to have a net worth of fourteen million dollars, according to celebritynetworth.com, it sparked astonishment among fans due to the crowdfunding appeal, resulting in a wave of criticism that swept through X.

Initially, I sympathized with Mandy Moore and her family’s situation. However, upon learning that she was launching a GoFundMe campaign while being a multimillionaire, it struck me as odd. After all, she has the means to assist her family without asking for donations. The requested $60K might seem insignificant to her wealth. Shaking my head in disbelief. 🤷‍♀️

On Instagram, Moore shared that her house in Altadena somehow survived the flames, even though nearby structures such as a garage, music studio, and guest house were devastated. Unfortunately, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Griff and Kit, suffered a much worse fate; they lost their home along with all their possessions due to the fire. Tragically, Kit is due to give birth to the couple’s first child in just a few weeks.

In her post, Moore shared:

Their first child is about to arrive soon, and they find themselves in a challenging situation. Griff, who’s a touring musician, has unfortunately lost all his drums and percussion equipment which he relies on for income. They are dealing with a lot right now. Many have asked how they can assist during this difficult and unexpected time… If you’re able, please think about donating or sharing to help them rebuild their livelihood.

Mandy Moore clarified that it was actually a friend who started the GoFundMe campaign, not herself, but criticism arose as some questioned why she didn’t utilize her own resources to help instead. The actress, expressing sadness over the loss of her “music studio” and “guest house,” now asking for contributions from struggling Americans, raised concerns among many people.

I’m concerned about everyone impacted by the fires. However, I believe Mandy Moore is behaving callously for promoting her brother and sisters-in-law’s GoFundMe campaign seeking $60k, while dismissing those who disagree with a harsh remark. Instead of donating to people in need, it seems she has wealthy relatives who can assist. This behavior appears inconsiderate to me.

In response, Moore didn’t hold back:

As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to express that it’s not constructive nor compassionate to doubt whether we’re supporting our own kin or basing assistance on some random figure Google provides about an individual’s wealth. Let me assure you, it’s beyond question that we’re there for family.

Moore further addressed the criticism, trying to justify why she shared this campaign.

My friend Matt initiated a GoFundMe campaign, and I’m passing it along because others have inquired about how they can offer assistance. Unfortunately, they suffered significant losses when their garage, music studio, and backhouse were engulfed by fire – luckily, their main house remained unscathed.

She ended her post with a blunt message aimed at her detractors:

“Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”

Some people empathized with Moore and her family in response to her post, but others found it insensitive considering her fame and wealth. This incident sparks a continuous discussion on how celebrities utilize crowdfunding sites, especially during times of crisis.
