Hoda Kotb knows Jenna Bush Hager deserves magic.
The veteran journalist has some advice for anyone taking over Today’s fourth hour, which used to be known as Hoda & Jenna, when they co-host the show with Jenna.
In a unique conversation with TopMob News, Hoda advised that person to simply be themselves wholeheartedly, without any pretense or attempts at being something else. She believes in their innate ability to express who they truly are, and if they genuinely desire it, it will naturally manifest.
She went on to say, “What matters isn’t individual exceptional talent like Jenna versus someone else. Rather, it’s the connection or synergy between them. From the moment you discover that spark, you just know it. You think, ‘That’s it, that’s the magic.’ And from that point on, things start moving quickly.” (Don’t forget to catch Hoda tonight on TopMob News at 11 p.m.)
The individual who, at 60 years old, shared co-hosting duties during the initial hour of the NBC morning broadcast alongside Savannah Guthrie, likewise recognized and addressed the difficulties inherent in such a position.
She pointed out that being authentic every day from Monday through Friday can be challenging, as it’s not like switching personas based on mood. Instead, one must consistently give their all, even if personal feelings might not be at their best.
She went on to say, “I believe all these aspects will align perfectly for whoever gets this position. This opportunity is simply extraordinary, without a doubt the best one could ask for.
Instead, the cherished hostess welcomes leisurely mornings ahead, enjoying an additional two hours of rest as she can silence her 3:15 a.m. alarm now.
In my expert opinion, I’ve discovered an early-morning Soul Cycle class at 5:45 AM. If I wake up at 5:15, I can attend this class, return home just as the kids are stirring, prepare breakfast, enjoy a cup of coffee, and manage the entire morning routine. This way, I not only fit in a workout but also start my day feeling refreshed and well-rested.
She’ll have the opportunity to utilize every spare moment with her daughters, who she has with her former partner Joel Schiffman, and who were the primary motivators for her decision to start this new chapter in life and move away from Today.
Hoda made it clear that her daughters hold a special place in her life, saying, ‘They always sit in the front or side car – there’s no room for anything else in this spot. Their importance outweighs everything else, including my career and time.’
In fact, January 13 represented the first Monday of Hoda’s next phase, which included plenty of sleep-ins and quality time with her children, Haley, aged 7, and Hope, aged 5. Notably, she mentioned that she would switch on the TV at 10 a.m. to catch Jenna in action.

Currently, the show at its fourth hour, previously known as “Jenna & Friends“, features the host collaborating with Scarlett Johansson. She’s stepping in temporarily while we find a long-term replacement for Hoda.
Hoda expressed, “I have a profound affection for Jenna and wish to see her thrive, as I believe she will excel tremendously. I’m eager to observe her progress. It’s hard to compare, but it feels somewhat like watching your child. It’s similar to attending a school play. I can almost imagine myself saying, ‘Hello everyone, this is Jenna.’ I just hope she continues to achieve the level of success she’s already attained.
She went on to say, “I’ll be there to observe as she takes her place and embraces her moment. It feels like she’s stepping in fully with both feet. I feel it’s going to be a truly enchanting experience, so I plan to be present from 10 to 11.

She’ll make use of each additional moment she has, spending it primarily with her daughters – the ones she co-parents with her ex, Joel Schiffman. These children are the main motivation behind her decision to embark on this new adventure and part ways with ‘Today’.
Hoda made it clear that her daughters are an integral part of her life, stating “They take the driver’s seat, they sit on the sidecar – there’s no backseat for them. Nothing else occupies this space. Not my career, not time, only they do.
She expressed, ‘I desire for them to understand their value is immeasurable and witness the effort it takes to achieve something significant. They should recognize the essence of love as well. I wish for them to grasp all these aspects, yet I also want them to recognize my choice in selecting them.’
