The renewal of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco trademarks by Sega in Japan on December 27th, 2024, has sparked excitement among fans as they speculate these new registrations could be connected to a potential new game release.
SEGA has hinted at plans to revive some classic franchises from its past, such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Ecco the Dolphin. Although it wasn’t initially part of the initial release, Ecco the Dolphin has been seen on Sony systems before, like its appearance in Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future on PS2.
Next week’s Xbox Developer Direct has sparked speculation among some fans, who are connecting the dots and proposing that a fresh Ecco the Dolphin game could be the secret title Microsoft is set to unveil. This theory stems from a rumor suggesting the game in question belongs to an established Japanese franchise, although it appears doubtful. Fans were hopeful a few years back when IGN hinted at a new game reveal accompanied by dolphin sounds, but it ultimately didn’t come to pass.
