Exodus Will Have Long-Term Narrative Consequences Depending on Players’ Relationships

Recently, Archetype Entertainment conducted a Q&A session to share updates on their forthcoming sci-fi action RPG titled Exodus. During this interactive session, creative director James Ohlen and executive producer Chad Robertson disclosed some fresh insights about the upcoming game.

In the game ‘Exodus’, the bonds players establish with their teammates are crucial, as the developers have hinted that undertaking missions may impact relationships with characters you initially don’t interact with for some time. This is due to the fact that missions in ‘Exodus’ can span several years, or even decades.

Ohlen stated, “During your ‘Exodus’ travels, you depart from your city, possibly leaving behind some acquaintances, including loved ones, and making decisions concerning them.

In Ohlen’s example, it was shown that certain characters might not be encountered by players for many years, and the decisions made by players would influence characters who have aged beyond their initial meeting point.

He clarified, “Not everyone needs to embark on this journey with you.” He pointed out that if you were to depart, some might be left behind. Upon returning, it could be ten years later, or even forty, and the passage of time would significantly affect your connections with people who have grown older in your absence.

This plot development arises because the tale in Exodus centers on mankind seeking a celestial abode, and such journeys on such a grand scale inevitably span multiple years. Additionally, time dilation seems to be a factor within the game’s storyline, possibly due to interstellar travel occurring at mind-boggling velocities.

In addition, Robertson disclosed that the main adversaries in the game, known as the Mara Yama, are expected to be unsettling. This is because the developers aim for these malevolent extraterrestrial beings to not only represent an evil Celestial civilization but also instill a sense of unease.

In a trailer unveiled in October, the mysterious Mara Yama were presented as being both bizarre and eerie. Unlike many civilizations, they don’t have a specific planet they call home, but rather roam the cosmos in their self-contained citadels, exhibiting a nomadic lifestyle among the stars.

The conversation continues, delving into several minor elements of the game. Topics include the influence of time dilation on players, insights about the character called the Traveler, and the preferred roles of game developers within the world of Exodus if they were inhabitants.

First introduced back in 2023, the game titled “Exodus” is a thrilling third-person action RPG, offering a blend of intense action sequences and extensive exploration. The gripping storyline is overseen by renowned science fiction author Drew Karbyshyn, who mentioned in an interview that players will encounter numerous long-term choices and the consequences they bring about.
