Brooke Shields needs a little extra help when it comes to the bedroom.
In her recently published memoir titled “Brooke Shields Refuses to Grow Old“, the author openly discusses the transformations in her intimate relationship with her spouse, Chris Henchy, as she’s grown older, acknowledging that her sexual desires have evolved over time.
In her book, Brooke expressed that she’s dealing with the physical changes associated with aging as a woman, even during the best of times. This includes hair thinning, facial peach fuzz, new belly fat, vaginal dryness, decreased sex drive, and a sense of reduced attractiveness to her partner compared to before, in her natural state. The 59-year-old revealed that it takes a little more help these days when she’s in the mood.
In her own words, she expressed that on a private note, she finds sexual activities uncomfortable. To make sex pleasurable for her currently, she requires specific lotions, the correct nightwear (which might be part of the issue), a specific pillow, and possibly some tequila to unwind.
And although she’s not completely let go, she remarked, “For the time being, I’m relying on the idea that ‘the more you have of something, the more you’ll appreciate it.’
Yet, this mother of two children didn’t hesitate to confess that on occasion, she feigns sleep when her spouse of 23 years expresses romantic intentions.
Thirty-five years after, she occasionally feigns sleep when I sense Chris is in a playful mood, but this act has nothing to do with him – he’s quite attractive! This is how she put it in her writing.
The star of the show “Mother of the Bride” also disclosed that besides her age, an unwanted labia reduction surgery performed by a doctor, intended to alleviate discomfort and bleeding, has had a negative impact on her intimate life. She shared that this procedure left her shocked and appalled, as it was not consensual and did not produce the desired results.
She implied he thought he had gone out of his way for her, and she admitted to being both shocked and confused by the situation. Later, she drove home feeling dazed.
And years later, her opinon on the doctor hasn’t changed.
“My sentiment is basically a giant middle finger,” Brooke wrote. “F–k that guy!”

Brooke Shields was initially reluctant to speak out about postpartum depression.
In her 2025 memoir titled “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Age“, she expressed her greatest concern at the time was being reduced to a pitiful tale – boohoo, poor Brooke Shields. She also mentioned that at one point, she contemplated if her sadness following the birth of her daughter Rowan Henchy in 2003 could be considered as some sort of retribution for decades of good fortune.
Ultimately the possibility that she might help other women feel less alone won out.
In a well-remembered interview on the Today show in June 2005, Tom Cruise criticized Shields for expressing that antidepressants had been beneficial to her. This left Shields utterly astonished or speechless.
At a younger age, she might not have asserted herself, as she confessed in the book. However, at 40 years old, instead of enduring further abuse, she decided to fight back. In defiance of her publicist’s advice, she penned an op-Ed piece for the New York Times, challenging Tom Cruise over his unfounded rant about a condition he would never encounter.
Later on, Cruise visited Shields’ home to express his apologies. She shared this information on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in September 2006. The actor’s representative acknowledged that they had reconciled, but stated that Cruise hadn’t altered his stance on antidepressants.
At the wedding of Cruise and Katie Holmes in November, Shields mentioned in her book that the apology wasn’t perfect, but it was the best he could manage, and she chose to forgive him.
Interestingly enough, Grier Henchy, Shields’ second child, and Suri Cruise share the same birthdate, April 18, 2006. Remarkably, both girls were born at the same hospital in Santa Monica, California.
She couldn’t help but observe the crowd of news vehicles and photographers outside, and she remarked, “I felt quite mortified when a nurse discretely informed me that the commotion outside wasn’t actually about me, but rather Tom and Katie, along with their newly born daughter.
In 2014, Shields agreed to a contract for 16 movies with the Hallmark Channel. However, following just three films in the “Flower-Shop Mystery” series, she felt the need to rediscuss and adjust the terms of her deal.
In her book, she mentioned that she was employed to infuse a comic flair into the television network, but unfortunately, the comical aspect seemed to have vanished from the mystery show.
In her own words, she wouldn’t have walked away from an unfavorable deal back then, but now, with the maturity that comes with age, she has gained the confidence to terminate it.
Teri Shields, her mother, would often say that work was just work, and “you shouldn’t think anything is beneath you.” However, it’s important to note that having the ability to be selective and choosy about your work comes with earning that right.
Previously, Shields had mentioned experiencing a grand mal seizure at a restaurant in New York City during 2023. Upon regaining consciousness, she discovered Bradley Cooper, her local neighbor, holding her hand. (The hostess contacted Shields’ assistant, who then reached out to Cooper’s assistant, who eventually managed to contact Cooper.)
Even though she was in an ambulance with him, they ended up at the hospital where she learned, as she mentioned in her book, that not only had she experienced a grand mal seizure, but she had also wet herself. (Interesting trivia: The one thing more embarrassing than wetting yourself is finding out later that Bradley Cooper was holding you when it happened.)
Brooke Shields’ seizure occurred due to excessive hydration, as she had been consuming large amounts of water prior to a charity performance of her cabaret show, Previously Owned by Brooke Shields. This led to an imbalance in her sodium levels.
In the hospital, she penned down that one of the most annoying aspects of the ordeal was when certain male physicians inquired about her salt consumption and chastised her for supposedly restricting it only to shed water weight, stating, “You should not reduce your salt intake merely to shed water weight.
According to Shields, she had been consuming less food, primarily because her appetite was affected by nervousness.
Instead of expressing her anger by threatening to slap the doctors with her soiled pants, Shields calmly stated, “I’m a 58-year-old woman who appears younger when I’m bloated. For me, eating salt is like using Botox. Therefore, no, I haven’t been cutting back on my salt intake to lose weight or look thinner.
In her mid-30s, after an unusual pap smear result, Shields had a cone biopsy performed to extract abnormal cells from her cervix.
In her note, it was stated that the process had been completed successfully, however, there was no mention that she would be stuffed with gauze to stop the bleeding. Subsequently, upon removal of the gauze, she encountered some blood.
In her own words, she wasn’t being overdramatic when she stated that it seemed as if she was bleeding profusely and on the verge of death, or perhaps delivering a mysterious baby-like entity that she hadn’t realized she was carrying. She felt as though her entire womb had slipped out onto the bathroom tile.
Additionally, Shields elaborated, she hadn’t been informed about the possibility of extensive scar tissue, which could potentially complicate her chances of conceiving.
Following further inspection, it was discovered that the biopsy had caused her cervix to become tighter and shorter. Consequently, during her initial round of IVF, the doctors were required to access her uterus through her navel rather than the usual route via the uterine canal to implant the embryo.
In 2006, Shields experienced a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage three months in. She shared this personal journey in her book titled Down Came the Rain.
Later on, Shields pointed out in her 2025 memoir, a male physician neglected to inform her about potential side effects from the biopsy, whereas a female fertility expert indicated that the process probably impacted her chances of getting pregnant.
In Shields’ opinion, she would have undergone the biopsy anyway. However, she expressed a desire for more information to be disclosed beforehand, allowing her to make an informed decision by providing informed consent.
On Shields’ journey, yet another challenging encounter served as a reminder that sometimes, doctors may not possess all the answers, and it’s crucial for her to stand up for herself as her own most effective ally in health matters.
After becoming a mother of two, Shields chose to have a procedure known as labial reduction, not for cosmetic reasons, but due to long-standing discomfort caused by enlarged labia that she’d experienced since her teenage years. She often joked with her closest friend who shared the same issue, likening it to carrying “two little speed bags” between them.
Since it was considered a purely aesthetic treatment, Shields was recommended to a highly-skilled plastic surgeon specializing in males, based in Los Angeles, who was renowned for his expertise.
After completing a four-hour surgery, the doctor informed her that he had also performed a minor cosmetic procedure to enhance her appearance in that area because, as he explained, everything becomes less tight following childbirth, Shields detailed.
She informed the doctor that she had undergone two C-sections, but his response made her feel as though he’d bestowed a kindness upon her. Shields was left feeling both appalled and bewildered, as she later recounted driving home in a daze.
According to Shields, the “bonus procedure” didn’t enhance her intimate relationship, but had she been satisfied with the outcome, she would have still felt anger. She refrained from taking legal action, and at one point pondered if maybe she was misinterpreting the situation and had actually received a fortunate gift instead.
But fast-forward to now, she wrote, and “my reaction wouldn’t be so generous.”
In fact, she added, “My sentiment is basically a giant middle finger. F–k that guy!”
Although Shields now exudes a wealth of perspective and self-assurance that she lacked in her twenties, it doesn’t imply that she hasn’t experimented with various cosmetic strategies to counteract the effects of aging.
Through her experience as a dancer with kinesiology tape, she expressed: “Whenever I have a film to promote or a modeling gig coming up, I’ve discovered the trick of attaching my Spanx to my thighs by taping them – essentially lifting my skin from my knees and sticking it to my shapewear for an instant (and non-invasive!) lift.
Instead, she mentioned that perhaps someday she might accept going gray, but at present, this brunette keeps having her roots colored.
Additionally, Shields undergoes Fraxel and laser therapies to achieve a more uniform complexion. Admittedly, she prefers to project a polished appearance in public, just in case photographers are present.
Although she was recognized as beautiful at a young age and rose to international fame as the face of Calvin Klein, Shields was clearly informed about the factors that distinguished her from the top-tier supermodels of the industry.
She wrote that she was explicitly informed she didn’t meet the standards for a runway model, as she wasn’t thin enough.
And being told she didn’t have the “right body” became a state of mind.
As I gazed at myself from the shoulders up, I embodied the poise and elegance of Brooke Shields; yet, beneath that facade, my physical self seemed to inhabit an alternate universe. This disconnect, this strange sensation, remains a constant companion, regardless of who one may be.
Shields married Andre Agassi in 1997 after several years of dating, but they divorced in 1999.
When she shared her fears about becoming overweight due to pregnancy, she asked him if he would continue to love her, and Shields wrote that she meant this in reference to her potential weight gain. His response was, “I care for you too deeply to let you become overweight!” or alternatively, “I value our relationship too much to let your weight increase due to pregnancy!
She acknowledged that wasn’t quite the answer she had hoped for. Nevertheless, as we are all aware of how that relationship unfolded, it seems prudent to shift our focus ahead.
In his memoir “Open”, published in 2009, Agassi explained several reasons why he and Shields were not compatible as a couple. Before their marriage, it seems that Shields followed a strict training routine to prepare herself. Interestingly, the tennis champion mentioned that during this time, a picture of Steffi Graf was placed on the fridge as motivation (Agassi and Graf have been married since 2001).
Back in April 2016, on the bustling set of Daisy Winters in Savannah, GA, I experienced a hot flash so intense, it brought production to a halt. The makeup artist was struggling to keep up, wiping me down as swiftly as possible.
Applying a combination of cold ice water and Sea Breeze toner on her neck worked, as Shields put it, allowing them to continue, but she couldn’t seem to stop expressing her apologies.
She was almost 51 at the time, but admittedly was startled to find out she was in perimenopause.
She mentioned that it hadn’t crossed her mind before, which might seem odd but, as she’s come to understand, is quite typical.
Looking back a couple of years, I found myself grappling with the harsh realities of menopause. Thankfully, my beloved Shields’ physician took it upon themselves to prescribe her estrogen and progesterone – lifesavers in easing some of those tough menopausal symptoms that had been making life a bit rocky for her.
She acknowledged that choosing a treatment course is a matter best decided between an individual and their physician. Nevertheless, Shields discovered the low-dose regimen to be incredibly beneficial and continues to use hormones up till now.
In 1996, during her guest appearance on the show “Friends”, Shields portrayed Joey’s stalker. She shared a humorous story about flipping the script on Matthew Perry when she learned he had a recurring joke where he would dash towards an attractive woman, mimicking sliding into home base, and attempt to glance under her skirt.
She held back until the perfect opportunity arrived on set, then sprinted towards Perry, knelt down and feigned a glance up his trouser leg as if peering at something.
Overwhelmed by unexpected anxiety at the eleventh hour, questioning my audacity for her actions, I breathed a sigh of relief as Perry burst into laughter.
In 1999, Brooke first encountered her future spouse, Chris Henchy, at a gym situated within the Warner Bros. studio complex, while she was acting on the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan”. At that time, Brooke was still wedded to Agassi, as mentioned in her memoir.
However, it wasn’t until the next year, following her divorce and amidst several personal turmoils, that she began dating the writer-producer. It was then that Henchy appeared, and she found his gallant demeanor appealing.
Initially, when Shields and Henchy started their relationship, she imagined they would form a prominent duo in Hollywood, producing numerous projects jointly.
Eventually, however, she realized there was enough work out there for the both of them, separately.
In my sincere reflection, I realized I wasn’t being just, applying undue stress on our bond. Consequently, I made it clear to him that unless a role tailored expressly for me was written, I had to be removed from his consideration, as I couldn’t proceed with the audition process under these circumstances.
Writing it down, she expressed that enduring rejection from a gathering of creative minds, among whom was her spouse, would be a tough blow to her self-esteem.
In essence, placing their family at the forefront was a crucial factor for their long-lasting union. Now that their children have grown, they are focusing on rekindling the very things that initially attracted them to each other, with the aim of preserving and strengthening their bond.
