Back in early 2020, Leigh Whannell’s chilling masterpiece, “The Invisible Man,” graced our movie screens. However, just a few short weeks later, global cinemas were forced to close due to the unforeseen circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite these initial obstacles, this film managed to carve out a niche for itself among both viewers and critics, earning widespread acclaim.
Star Elisabeth Moss has hinted at her desire for a sequel, but director Whannell himself seems hesitant about revisiting the story. Producer Beatriz Sequeira shares this enthusiasm for more of Moss’s captivating performance in a potential follow-up, expressing hope that Whannell could join us once again for another installment.
Interestingly, Sequeira recently collaborated with Whannell on an upcoming project titled “Wolf Man,” set to premiere in theaters on January 17th. It will be exciting to see what these talented minds create together next!
When ComicBook inquired about a potential Invisible Man sequel without Whannell, the producer admitted, “No, but I could envision a sequel with everyone’s participation. We’d be thrilled to see one. The character of Cecilia is simply extraordinary, and I’d like to know what she plans to do next.
The way the movie concluded, it doesn’t seem like a sequel is necessary, but since there were hints left in the story, fans have been discussing various possibilities. Back in 2022, Moss shared with ComicBook that the project wasn’t abandoned, however, by October of this year, Whannell stated that the fate of the concept now depends on the studio.
Regarding “The Invisible Man,” Whannell shared with ComicBook that he was satisfied with the ending and felt it wrapped up well for him personally. Since Whannell doesn’t own the rights to the IP, Universal is free to produce a sequel if they choose. However, as a filmmaker, Whannell believes the story has been concluded and can’t envision any further narrative.
Although it appears that Whannell’s time with that character has ended, he showcases his talent for resurrecting a different Universal Monster in the upcoming “Wolf Man”.
As a supporter, I’d rephrase it as follows: “Imagine if someone you cherish transforms into something unsettling. Presented by Blumhouse and the innovative filmmaker Leigh Whannell, the minds behind the gripping contemporary monster story ‘The Invisible Man’, comes a chilling new werewolf terror: ‘Wolf Man’. Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (from ‘Poor Things’ and ‘It Comes at Night’) portrays Blake, a San Francisco husband and father who, after his own father disappears and is presumed dead, inherits his secluded childhood home in rural Oregon. With his marriage to his ambitious wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner from ‘Ozark’ and ‘Inventing Anna’), on the rocks, Blake manages to convince Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit this property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth from ‘Hullraisers’ and ‘Coma’).
However, when the family arrives at the farmhouse late at night, they’re suddenly ambushed by an unseen beast. In a panic, they lock themselves inside the house as the creature circles around it. As the hours pass, Blake starts acting oddly, morphing into something unfamiliar, and Charlotte must determine if the menace inside their home is more deadly than the threat lurking outside. The movie features Sam Jaeger (from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’), Ben Prendergast (‘The Sojourn Audio Drama’), and Benedict Hardie (‘The Invisible Man’).
Keep an eye out for news regarding a potential follow-up to “The Invisible Man”. Meanwhile, mark your calendars as “Wolf Man” is set to premiere in cinemas on January 17th.
