Pokemon Go Makes Surprising Remote Raid Change

It’s common knowledge that Niantic has significantly worsened the Remote Raids feature in Pokemon Go over the past two years, with increased costs and daily participation limits. These adjustments, intended to encourage local gameplay, have made it challenging to raid remotely when in-person play isn’t feasible. It’s intriguing that despite these challenges, Niantic is planning a positive change for the Fashion Week: Takeover event and the upcoming Ho-oh Shadow Raid Day.

For the first time, players can now join Shadow Raids from afar during these special events. Given that January is known for its chilly weather, this feature could greatly expand the number of participants in Shadow Raids. Additionally, it might make the more challenging Shadow Raids less daunting, which is beneficial. At present, we’re unsure if this change will be permanent for all future Shadow Raids or if Niantic will only do so during select events.

Regardless of the circumstances, this alteration undeniably brings about a positive impact. Initially, barring remote participants from Shadow Raids didn’t seem beneficial. In fact, it posed challenges for local players too, since it led to a diminished player base to select from. It will be intriguing to witness the outcomes of this adjustment and whether it could pave the way for further changes in Remote Raids. One of the main issues with Gigantamax Raids at present is the struggle to gather enough local players to overcome them. Here’s hoping Niantic will explore the possibility of enabling remote participation in Max Raids as well.

The timing of this transition is quite favorable for Pokémon Go enthusiasts. On Ho-oh Shadow Raid Day, participants will experience a higher probability of encountering a Shiny Ho-oh. Distinguished by its striking gold and white color palette instead of the usual orange, this event could provide players with an excellent chance to discover one. Whether they intend to utilize it in Pokémon Go or transfer it to Pokémon Home for use in the primary games, this could be a fantastic opportunity.

Fashion Week: Takeover in Pokemon Go starts on Wednesday, January 15th at midnight and lasts until Sunday, January 19th at 8 pm (local time). The Ho-oh Shadow Raid Day event will be held on Sunday, January 19th, from 2 pm to 5 pm (local time).
