This week, a surprising twist unfolded in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni‘s ongoing legal dispute as Baldoni’s attorney decided to bring Disney and Marvel into the fray. The attorney is attempting to make connections between Baldoni and the character of Nicepool, played by Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and Wolverine, and he’s asking for Disney’s internal correspondence to support his claim.
If you haven’t noticed, currently, Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds is one of the few successful projects Marvel has going on financially, not draining resources like a black hole. Needless to say, Deadpool wouldn’t be where it is without the talented Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds.
The team-up between Deadpool and Wolverine turned out to be an exhilarating box office hit, with Hugh Jackman portraying Wolverine alongside a range of well-known stars…some subtler than others, it appeared. One such character that went relatively unnoticed was Lady Pool, later identified as being played by Blake Lively.
Afterward, we had “Nicepool”, a charming individual sporting a man bun, who openly identified as a feminist. He also wore earrings affectionately known as ‘ear huggies’, and was prone to offering unasked-for insights on dealing with inner wounds.
Or in a more concise version:
“Nicepool”, a self-proclaimed feminist with a man bun, ear huggies, and often shared unsolicited advice about healing emotional scars, emerged then.
According to the lawyer for Justin Baldoni’s character, Justin Baldoni (who is portrayed by Reynolds)…
As a movie lover, I’m closely following the unsettling developments between Blake Lively and Baldoni. They’re embroiled in a complex legal dispute centered around allegations of sexual harassment during the filming of “It Ends With Us“. The situation has become quite muddy with various lawsuits and counter-claims being exchanged.

The unusual aspect emerges when Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, suggests that the character from Nicepool is actually modeled after Baldoni himself. This idea seems to stem from… what exactly?
In his own words (during a conversation with Megyn Kelly): “From my perspective, if your spouse is being sexually harassed, you don’t mock Justin Baldoni in such a situation… There’s no doubt it connects to Justin. In fact, anyone who saw that hair bun would understand the connection.
It seems the man-bun is popular, indeed! But undoubtedly, there must be numerous other gentlemen sporting a man-bun as well, correct?
In the latest Beetlejuice 2 movie, it appears that the character “Harold,” portrayed by Justin Theroux, bears striking resemblances in both personality and quirks to Nic Cage’s character (and even sports a man-bun). Is there also a basis for this character in Baldoni?
Instead of saying “But Freedman and Baldoni are so sure of this, they’re using it as part of their legal case against Lively and Reynolds,” you could rephrase it in a more natural and easy-to-read way like: “Freedman and Baldoni are confident about this point; they’ve incorporated it into their legal argument against Lively and Reynolds.
On the 7th of January, a litigation hold notice was sent by Freedman to Kevin Feige (Marvel’s boss) and Robert Iger (Disney’s CEO). This letter, related to potential legal proceedings involving Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and others, instructed Disney and Marvel to preserve all pertinent documents.
The letter asks Disney and Marvel to protect documents related to the creation of the “Nicepool” character, including correspondence related to its development, writing, and production. Additionally, it requests that they preserve records that might indicate an intention to use the character in a manner that ridicules, harasses, or intimidates Baldoni.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder what might surface if the behind-the-scenes chats between Disney and Marvel get exposed. It’s plausible that such disclosure could stir fresh complications for Disney and Marvel beyond the ongoing squabble involving Lively, Reynolds, and Baldoni.
Baldoni, who passionately fights against “toxic masculinity,” might not fully grasp the number of men similar to Nicepool in existence. The character was amusing because many people in the audience can relate to someone just like him. It’s worth mentioning that in the movie, he drives a Honda Odyssey minivan named “Betsy” with Avril Lavigne playing on the radio. Feel free to draw your own conclusions from that detail.
It raises the question: If Nicepool was indeed modeled after Baldoni, then was the character being used as a human shield for an excessive amount of gunfire, arrows, blow darts, etc. (mostly fired by Ladypool), and ultimately having his head blown off, could this have been a way for Reynolds to express his true feelings towards the actor/director?
Whatever the case may be, it certainly makes for some interesting legal drama.
