Instead of anticipating a greater appearance of Jinwoo’s new shadow soldiers and S-rank hunters in Season 2 of Solo Leveling, viewers might find themselves captivated by an unforeseen A-rank hunter instead. Apart from featuring the thrilling clash against Baruka and introducing one of the funniest shadow soldiers, the latest episode of Solo Leveling also showcases one of Woo Jinchul’s most intriguing scenes in the entire series, ultimately giving the limelight to the series’ most outstanding A-rank hunter.
In the second episode of Solo Leveling’s second season, Baek Yoonho, head of the White Tiger Guild, squares off against Hwang Dongsu, who has arrived in Korea with a grudge against Jinwoo following the events of Season 1. Just as it seems the two are about to engage in combat, Woo Jinchul, Chief Inspector of the Korean Hunters Association, intervenes. Impressively, he manages to deflect the attacks of both Yoonho and Dongsu with mere bare hands, revealing the unseen might that lies beneath his professional demeanor.
Solo Leveling Finally Adapts Woo Jinchul’s Best Moment in the Series
In the grand battle at the Red Gate, though often overshadowed, Jinchul’s moment to shine was eagerly anticipated by fans of the manhwa. Despite having a modest profile and limited screen time in the anime thus far, Woo Jinchul has garnered significant fan affection among those familiar with Solo Leveling’s manhwa. The recent episode offers anime-only viewers a glimpse into Jinchul’s character and his formidable abilities, even as an A-rank hunter.
It’s true that becoming an A-rank hunter is no trivial accomplishment, but when compared to Jinwoo’s escalating power and the immense might of the S-rank hunters, Jinchul – who primarily works within the Surveillance Team due to his civil duties – can often be overlooked. As time goes on, even the S-rank hunters become less prominent as power gaps widen (a phenomenon known as “power creep”). However, moments such as the one in the latest episode demonstrate that Jinchul is able to make a lasting impact.
Even though being an A-rank hunter is impressive, it’s easy to underestimate someone like Jinchul who usually works behind the scenes due to his civil duties. The S-rank hunters often fade into obscurity because of power creep, but moments like the one in the latest episode show that Jinchul can still make a big impact.
The extraordinary nature of this feat lies in the fact that conflicts among S-rank hunters are famously devastating, with a handful of these elite hunters being labeled as National Level Hunters due to their power equaling that of an entire nation’s military. Despite Yoonho and Dongsu not being at this level, as Jinchul himself acknowledges, they possessed the strength to potentially break Jinchul’s arms if they had used their full force. To step between two S-rank hunters, as Jinchul did, requires not just confidence but a tremendous amount of bravery. It’s satisfying to see him finally receive the recognition he deserves for this action.
It’s true that the scene is much more thrilling in the manhwa, mainly because the anime unexpectedly steps away from Jinwoo and the battle within the Red Gate for a brief moment before returning to Jinchul, interrupting the suspense. However, since the Solo Leveling anime has been modifying certain aspects from the original source, creating new scenes for S-rank hunters, there’s hope that viewers will get to witness more of Woo Jinchul too, who undeniably deserves more recognition.
