Fans of PlayStation 2 (PS2) are in for a shock with a recent free offering on PS4 and PS5. This unexpected free release is actually a re-release of a 2004 exclusive title from the PS2 era. It’s quite astonishing to think that 2004 was 21 years ago! For those who were around then, they will recall it as a pivotal year in gaming history. Some of the notable titles launched during this period include GTA San Andreas, Half-Life 2, Halo 2, World of Warcraft, Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Fable, Far Cry, Killzone, Monster Hunter, Red Dead Revolver, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, DOOM 3, Need For Speed: Underground 2, Gran Turismo 4, Star Wars: Battlefront, Spider-Man 2, DRIV3R, Burnout 3: Takedown, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Unreal Tournament 4, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Rome: Total War, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, The Sims 2, Metroid: Zero Mission, Dragon Quest VIII, Pikmin 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Ridge Racer, Sly 2, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald, and a variety of popular sports games such as NFL Street were all unveiled.
2004 was packed with exceptional games, making it potentially the most outstanding year in gaming history. In such a year, numerous titles can easily go unnoticed. One of these often overlooked games was Phantom Brave, a tactical RPG developed by Nippon Ichi Software. Receiving an 81 on Metacritic initially, it didn’t immediately warrant a sequel, but its success allowed for multiple ports to platforms like Wii, PSP, PC, and Nintendo Switch over time.
Originally, there wasn’t a follow-up to it many years ago, but this year, a sequel is finally here! Coming up soon, you can play it. In fact, it’s set to drop on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5 on January 30th. The new installment goes by the name Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, and if you’re eager to give it a spin, you can do so for free right now.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to announce that tomorrow, January 17th, NIS America is releasing a free demo for our much-anticipated game! Although they haven’t specified the extent of the playable content in the demo, what’s exciting is that save data from this demo will carry over to the full version of the game. Can’t wait to dive in and see where this journey takes us!
Interested individuals can locate the free demo for the respective platforms: Nintendo Switch users can access it through the Nintendo eShop, while PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners can find it on the PlayStation Store. For those with a PC, the demo is available on Steam.
