Just a few weeks into the new year, some major games have already been scrapped even before their official announcements. This information comes from Bloomberg’s report, suggesting that PlayStation has indeed canceled two live-service games in development by its in-house teams at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. Interestingly, Bluepoint Games was said to be working on a live service God of War game.
According to an internal memo, Sony’s PlayStation team is actively collaborating with Bend and Bluepoint studios to decide on upcoming projects. They aim to take all necessary steps to minimize any potential negative effects on their business.
In more straightforward terms, Sony has been aiming high for their multiplayer game titles over the past years, with as many as a dozen of these games being developed simultaneously at some point. Unlike their single-player games that initially release on consoles and later come to Windows PCs, Sony has chosen to launch its live service games on both PlayStation and PC platforms simultaneously from day one.
2024 saw the release of Concord, a competitive shooter game by PlayStation. However, the game was discontinued shortly after because it struggled with poor sales. Following this, Firewalk Studios, the Seattle-based development team behind Concord, were closed down.
