Vampire Survivors Gets Cross-Save, Movie & More in 2025

2024 saw Poncle unveil a heap of fresh content for Vampire Survivors, with the standout being the epic Ode to Castlevania DLC that brought about the most significant gameplay transformations yet. This impressive work garnered them the Game Dev Excellence Award in our very own Windows Central Game Awards 2024! Now, they’ve given us a sneak peek into what lies ahead for 2025 – could it be cross-save functionality, a live-action film adaptation, or even an entirely new game? Let’s dive in and find out!

Celebrating a bumper year in 2024

In an exuberant video featuring 2024 milestones, Poncle showcased an action-packed year. Notable moments encompassed the Operation Guns collaboration, updates for Darkasso, a partnership with Balatro, the release of Castlevania DLC, and finally, the game’s much anticipated debut on PlayStation. Moreover, they unveiled a teaser roadmap brimming with excitement in their blog post, offering hints about future developments.

Patch 1.13 will bring cross-save to all platforms

For me, the most thrilling news is the upcoming cross-platform save feature in Patch 1.13. Being a Vampire Survivors player on both Xbox and Steam, I’ve been eager to synchronize my game progress across platforms, and it seems that Poncle is making that dream come true this year. Additionally, they are also developing an online cooperative mode, targeting its release in 2025.

A live-action film and ‘something else’

Poncle is joining forces with Story Kitchen for the creation of a live-action Vampire Survivors film, an idea that initially seems outlandish given its origins as a chaotic roguelike game. However, the team’s track record demonstrates their knack for imaginative storytelling, showcased by the first-ever voiced cutscene in Ode to Castlevania, featuring Neil Newbon of Baldur’s Gate 3 and SungWon Cho as voices.

Furthermore, the blog post suggests more “cross-media” ventures that will be unveiled this year.

More adventures but smaller DLC

Additionally, Poncle affirmed their intention to broaden the Adventures system, offering separate storylines that commence from the start for players. They’re planning on introducing new Adventures within existing DLC such as Tides of the Foscari, and they’re even contemplating one for Ode to Castlevania.

Despite the high expectations set by Ode to Castlevania, creating DLC of comparable size and scope has proven difficult. Instead, Poncle seems to be leaning towards smaller content updates, hinting at additional “original expansions” without specifying collaboration. This shift is certainly intriguing.

Experiments and something not-Vampire Survivors

Poncle is working together with independent developers to explore content similar to Vampire Survivors, but with a twist. Out of the six projects they’ve been experimenting with, two have been approved for further development, two have been reconsidered, and there are still two projects that are in progress.

It’s even more captivating that Poncle hinted at projects other than Vampire Survivors. Could these possibly be forays into different genres or unique gameplay mechanics? Regardless of what they have in store, I can hardly wait to see it.
