Adult Swim Head Jumps From Cartoon Network to Disney

It’s clear now that Adult Swim has significantly transformed the landscape of animation, undeniably becoming one of the most influential programming blocks on Cartoon Network and a go-to destination for watching anime on TV screens. In terms of its reputation, Suzanna Makkos is a notable figure in Adult Swim’s history. She not only contributed to series like Smiling Friends but also has an extensive background in creating significant adult animation for MAX specifically. Regrettably, Warner Bros will be losing Makkos as she has unexpectedly joined Disney, continuing her work within the field of animation.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Makkos’ impressive career trajectory in the world of comedy. With a background as an Executive, she’s worked on hit series like “Close Enough,” “Doom Patrol,” “Clone High,” “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!,” “Velma,” “James Gunn’s Creature Commandos,” and most recently, “Harley Quinn.” As Deadline shares, Suzanna is stepping into the role of Head of Comedy for both ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals. This encompasses a wide range of entertainment, from live-action comedy and adult animation to stand-up specials. Interestingly, her first significant role was as a development director on “Family Guy,” now under Disney’s wing following the Fox acquisition.

From MAX to Disney

In the announcement, the Executive Vice President of Development and Content Strategy at ABC Entertainment made this statement: “Suzanna has a remarkable range of experience that we’re thrilled to have on our team. She’s an accomplished creative collaborator with a strong history of creating hit comedies for both traditional broadcast and streaming platforms. We can’t wait to have her join us.

I am beyond excited to be part of Disney Entertainment Television, a place where Craig Erwich, Simran, and their teams are the epitome of excellence in television. I can hardly contain my anticipation to work alongside this exceptional group of leaders and the vibrant array of creative minds behind these cherished brands.

What of Adult Swim?

Excitedly speaking, I’m currently stepping into Makkos’ shoes at MAX and Adult Swim while a successor is being selected. Meanwhile, even though Suzanna has moved on from Warner Bros, she’s still got another project brewing – “Common Side Effects” premieres on February 2nd! It’ll be fascinating to observe the changes that unfold in both Disney and Warner Bros as a result of Makkos taking up her new role.
